I wanted to know if anyone who's recently bought an iPod touch (week 42 and up) have had any problems with their screens such as the negative effect? I ask because I may ask apple to replace my iphone with an ipod, since i've been having problems with the iphone. Thanks.

I haven't seen a report since week 38. It appears you're safe with a week 39 or newer.

I have been through a strikingly 7 iPod touches, none of them having the negative black effect, but all of them having stuck pixels. Does the perfect screen even exist?

It's odd, I've had to return/exchange 2 units for various reasons (both were older units with less than perfect blacks), but I've never had a stuck/dead pixel on any unit. But I have heard of other people with pixel problems, obviously it can happen with any LCD screen.

I have a week 41 that is essentially perfect, a joy to watch videos on.

Can we trade? lol

I'm considering e-mail apple about this or calling them - and if they think I am just kidding, I have seven exchange bills to back it up! They really need to get their QC in canada up to par...

Turn the brightness of your iPod up. Load up a completely black screen. Tilt the unit, and as you do so, indulge yourself in the green-stuck pixel graveyard! I'm not joking, one of the units I had must have had 100 of them!

I just got my iPod touch yesterday and I'm using it right now. The screen is perfect and its really flawless. Typing on this keyboard I'd much faster then I expected too. The only problem I have is that sometimes the screen doesn't rotate but other than that it's great.

Make sure your Touch is vertical when you rotate. If you try to rotate it when it's too flat (parallel to the ground), it won't rotate (it shouldn't, since just walking around would then rotate your screen.)

I got mine last week. It shipped with v1.1.1 firmware and has no problems at all.

I know others have said that when they view a dark screen with 100% brightness, they can see a lot of gray pixels (maybe due to blacklight reflections or something.)

But my screen really looks just about perfect. Hopefully you can get one just as good as mine, I doubt units sold in different geographic regions should differ since they are all coming from the same place!

I have a week 38 iPod touch and there are 2 stuck pixels, but I'm not OCD and it doesn't bother me at all since they are near the edges of the screen. Overall loving the beautiful screen. ^.^

I have a week 37 that worked fine, albeit with a bit of a dark screen. 1.1.1 helped with that, but 1.1.2 seems to have improved it even more. Dark screen is a thing of the past. Colors are vibrant, and things look great. So if you haven't upgraded to 1.1.2, it's highly recommended.

I had a week 39 with a bad pixel....took it back same day. Had to wait 2 weeks for them to get more in. Got a week 41 no dead pixels and no negative black screen. Tried the Jay-Z pic and it looks great.
Did not buy from apple because you must have 3 dead pixels to get an exchange.

Just noticed last night that mine has a cluster of dead pixels, with some scattered across the side. Black scenes in videos look like ****. It's a week 40 with 1.1.2. Have a service request pending as of today.

I have had my week 38 for a little over a week. I noticed that on album covers the images have this weird distortion and the album cover for songs that have none (The one in coverflow) the bottom is a curved black and the gradient looks really messy in it. I don't think that it could be the screen but maybe the firmware.

Flawless screen here (w 40). Wish I could say the same for the audio though... with good headphones on you hear a huge amount of idle noise that you wouldn't expect on this side of 8-bit Soundblaster cards circa 1992...

I got a week 39 that came with 1.1, when I updated to 1.1.1 it mucked up the quality of the screen. Its got a very little bit of negative black but mostly everything looks bad quality for some reason, you can see little dots on the black parts of the screen... I've also got a lighter line all around the Earth on that default globe background...

Try converting at high quality using Isquint...the black portion looked alright as compared to ripping in standard....

i have some issues with black, but only noticable when you really look for it. Other than that it's perfect product, and beautiful screen, no dead/stuck pixels.

To answer some questions:

The first TWO characters are the FACTORY. The 3rd character is the year of production, which should be 7. So, all iPt made in factory 9C would have the first three characters as 9C7. The next two digits are the week.

Mine is: 9C740

9C factory
7 year
40 week

Understood?

I've noticed exactly the same issue :( The problem are artifacts, extremely well visible in black areas of screen. They look somewhat greenish. I've noticed that when you look at screen a little bit from left angle then this artifacts dissapear, and the screen looks much better, without this "greenish cast" that is visible when looking in front of screen.
So you're saying that with 1.1 screen looked better? If so, then it would mean that this is software issue that can be easily fixed with future upgrades, beacouse till now I thought it was hardware issue (bad screen) that cannot be fixed. Also, did you upgrade to 1.1.2? I would like to know if this upgrade fixes sxreen problems?
This greenish artifacts are visible on every ecreen, actually, even on my computer, but my computer's screen handles with this problem by "camuflaging" this greenish artifact with very deep black. On ipod touch, black is not very deep, it is actually too bright, that's why we see this artifacts. The problem could be easily resolved if Apple adjust gamma, brightness and contrast. In fact this settings should be implemented in menu....

Im not sure if it looked better in 1.1 but I guessed its a software thing because all iPods over week 38 are ment to be fine. I havent updated because its jailbreaked and I dont want to have to put all the apps on all over again and do all the hacks and stuff I done on mine. If you havent jailbreaked yet or dont mind doing it again can you update and see what happens? A good way to test is to upload a album without any album art then go in to CoverFlow on the iPod and look at the quality before the update (it should suck) then look again after the update.

actually I haven't jailbroken, but I have updeted my ipod's soft to ver 1.1.2 and I see no improvement in screen quality. I guess they never gonna fix it :( Maybe they think that they totally fixed screen in ver 1.1.1 and there's nothing more to improve? Or maybe there's actually not much to be improved, because maybe it's a hardware problem :( I wonder does all ipod touches have this crappy screen or maybe someone have seen or heard of a good screen in ipod touch?

week 43 that failed appleservedup.com tests and has a general "shimmery" look to blacks.
I'm waiting for a replacement to arrive (thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=393092)).

I win screenwise. Passes all the tests and no stuck pixels... but software stability wise it's not so good.

oh dear lord, I can't believe this. I waited two months after getting one (week37) of the first negative-black-screen iPod touchs and yesterday I received my new 16 GB (week42) I bought off Amazon. It still has the bad screen and this time it can't even connect to Wi-Fi. It detects them but it can't connect to any of them.

I am seriously mad with Apple now. Not releasing Mac Pro isn't something I can complain about but having me buy two bad iPods in a two-month window is simply unacceptable!

I don't know if Apple Store will exchange something I bought from Amazon within 3 days it was shipped...I hope they do or I will probably wait for the 2nd gen iPhone rather than going through the whole Amazon send-it-back and try-this-one process. I am totally frustrated.:confused::mad:
