Colour and screen resolution problems after log in

I'm having trouble, once logged in with colour and screen resolution, after log in icons appear normal on screen for a second, then jump to low res with low colour settings, tried to reset in display control box but no luck, any ideas ????

What Mac are you using? How much RAM memory, what speed processor, what version of Mac OS (Panther/Tiger/Leopard)?
