I cant believe my eyes to see that the sealed iPods' prices are skyrocketing on eBay. I just saw last night a 20GB iPod U2 that doesnt have any color LCD on it sold for nearly $1200. Just for comparison, I bought 2 of these back in 2008 for approx. $200 each.

I had the original spinwheel iPod. Let one of Russian friends borrow it and got stolen along the rest of her purse... was long time ago. Those iPods were great, especially the FireWire. USB is awful.

i wouldn't call myself a collector, but i have owned/own some iPods;

CURRENT:
iPod Classic 120gb silver
iPod Nano 7th gen 8gb silver - due to the iPod Nano 1st generation replacement program

BROKEN/SOLD ON:
iPod Nano 2nd generation pink 4gb
iPod Nano 3rd generation pink 8gb

and my family also have a 4th gen iPod shuffle 2gb green, a white iPhone 4, 4th generation iPod Nano Pink 16gb

i miss my 2gb black first gen, my first ever nano, but it sparked at me when i charged it.. i want an ipod mini, i've always had a thing about that model and the ipod with the 4 led buttons..

try and go for the nano's first.manly the 5th gen cause people are pricing them too high now but you can find one really cheap.i found one for $50 but offered him $65.00.i see many go up to $399 or even more.so for the 5th gen ano cause that is the best nano ever.

The 5th gen is my least fav because of that stupid camera that sucked and couldn't even take still pics and the resolution was crap and forget about trying to watch anything you shot with it on your tv or computer in full screen. On the other hand it did have a big screen so if you did like to watch movies it had that going for it, but then again imo it was trying to hard to be something it's not. Just my two bits about that sorry to rant guys.

I've had in the past:
iPod Touch (1st Gen 32GB)
iPod Classic (80GB)

Now I have:
Latest gen Nano (16GB)
But I ususally use my iPhone+iPad for music, though I really want a 160GB iPod Classic to replace the one that I no longer have!

Not much of a collection, but I wanted to contribute something to this nice thread.

My iPods (From left to right; top to bottom):

iPod touch (second-generation)(8GB)
iPod shuffle (fourth-generation)
iPod nano (sixth-generation)(8GB)
iPod touch (fourth-generation)(8GB)

I want to buy an iPod classic eventually. I just have to justify the purchase... to myself. Got a lot of iPods already, although the iPod classic is appealing to me for more reasons than one.

Sorry man,
Thats definitely a refurb. Your ipod was produced in 2006! Its a first generation, but sold 4 years later as new! Your ipod is only 3.5 years old.
From klantenservice:
Serial number: GQ62104XML1
Name: iPod (First generation)
Model: M8709 iPod 10GB Generation=1
Group1: iPod
Group2: nothing
Generation: 1
ModelCode: ipod
Colour: White
Capacity: 10GB
Factory: GQ (Remanufactured Model = Refurbished (ipod))
External link: Technical specifications by apple-history.com
Model introduced: 2001
Production year: 2006
Production week: 21 (May)
Production number: 167 (within this week)

If it's a refurbished iPod then I think it can still be one of the real 1st Gens? The link at http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/apple_certified.html says that a refurbished product "is given a new refurbished part number and serial number.".

Wirelessly posted

Here's my collection of sealed iPods. Only the 1st and 2nd gen are opened. Everything else is still sealed in its original box with plastic wrap or seal.

P.S. Looking for 4th gen color/photo 60gb. The one with the black box w/o "photo" written on it.

Wow! Thats an amazing looking collection. You must have worked hard to get them all.
The older cardboard boxes are so much more interesting than the new plastic ones. Although the plastic ones look nice they just don't have the same charm as the different coloured older ones.
The only one that is a bit of a let down is the black and white 3G box.

Forgive me for asking
About sealed boxes; how do you know its not a fake? Isn't a market for that as well?

I figured you guys would know..

I am trying to find an iPod 4G on eBay and I am getting confused. I collect iPods and look for them with their boxes. The 4G iPod, black and white, from what I have seen, came in a box with the colored background with black silhouette dancers. The iPod 4G Photo came with a box that had a close up picture of the iPods screen with pictures on it. But I have seen some for sale with solid black boxes with silver lettering saying "iPod, xxGB, Mac+PC". Are these legit boxes?

Ok thanks! That's what I was thinking. I see one black and white 4G and one Photo 4G for sale with these boxes. I think one of them is not the original box. But I'm not sure which.

Macfrik: I see one that I am talking about in your collection, is that a color or black and white 4G?

You can always ask the seller to confirm that the serial number on the back of the iPod matches the serial number on the box. That should confirm it for you. Any decent seller will confirm this for you. I always used to ask that questions before I bought an iPod on ebay. My collecting days are over though.

I dont have my 1st gens ipods available right now, but maybe youll find the model number if you check in the about screen in the menus? If not you can connect it to itunes, and see if modelnumber shows up.

What did klantenservice say about the ipods? I do think you have a 2nd gen ipod, either for windows, or mac (M8513LL/B (Mac)/M8697LL/A (Windows)).

Its not a knockoff, the exterior is identical to the first gen, but the mainboard looks different, and they were shipped in a different boxes then the first gen.

Are you talking about the 2 ipods mentioned?

I have a question for you veteran iPod collectors. My favorite color is red, and I have been trying to get the Product Red iPods of any version that they come in. It seems like they sell for way more on eBay then they did new, with seller saying "Rare", when these were easy to come by when new. I just got a good deal on an Orange 16GB 5th generation iPod Nano, but now I see a Red 8GB 5th generation for sale for about $20 more then I paid for the Orange one with double the space. I'm debating selling the 16GB orange one and buying the Red one. I'm just not sure if I should bother collecting all Product Red iPods, or just collect different colors to make my collection shelf look more interesting. Any thoughts?

i'll say get all the colours.but while your at it get the current 6th gen product red nano cheap before it will become rare just like the previous red ipods.i am currently working on getting every colour of the 5th gen ipod nano which so far i have 4 colours out of 9 and orange is one of the ipods i am looking for.

I just received the current 6th gen Nano Product Red from Apple in the mail yesterday. I was thinking the same thing, get it now before it goes up. I'm not really concerned with it being sealed, just in great condition. I did open the new Nano, as I will probably use it at the gym. For now i'm thinking just one color of each generation, preferably red. Then I might move onto one of each color of each generation. But I'm pretty sure my significant other might end it if I do that.

Hello collectors.
I am trying to sell my silver Ipod Mini 1st generation. Have a receipt for it and it was bought in Gibralter in December 2004.

I have the original cable however it is not boxed however it does work and even has a selection of old school songs which can be included ;) lol

Just wandering if any of you have any idea how much it is worth? I have been offered 65 but a friend said it should be worth more. I dont know much about technology so need some advice?

Thank you :)

I am glad I am not the only one who has gone wild on iPods.

I currently have: (and I can almost justify a purpose for most)

iPhone 4 16 gb (my main one)
iPod nano 2nd Generation 2gb (the one I don't mind sweating on and getting dirty with)
iPod Touch 2nd Generation 8gb (for the car, although I am finding that the nano works better because of the "no look" changing of songs, but it holds way less than the touch)
2 iPod Minis 4gb...these are pretty much retired, one the battery is about shot, and the other is beat all to heck but still works.

Have owned:
iPhone 8gb...sold
iPhone 16gb...sold
iPod Classic...sold
iPod shuffle...gave away
iPod Nano 1st Generation 1gb...gave away  It's cool though, I gave it to my mom, and I did the exchange for her on the recall so she got a refurb 8gb Nano 6th gen as a replacement.

So I just received a limited edition Gold 2nd Generation iPod Shuffle. It's the one that Avon sold for a bit. It is still factory sealed. Silverbird0000...didn't see the answer to your question regarding the boxes in this thread so...

Of course its a slow process, trust me I know! Have been collecting a couple of years now myself, but its so sad to see this thread die :(

Regarding your avon 2g shuffle. If you break the seal, the value will drop! That said, I almost never buy anything unopened! I like my iPods unused with boxes opened with all original accessories! Perhaps I could buy a 1G unopened box if the price is right, but I find most iPods today overpriced just like original star wars figures

People sitting on a scruffy 1G iPod that doesn't work, and they think they can get loads of $$$$$

Well, collecting iPods is expensive, but not compared to ww2 german militaria. An authentic tunic could cost you 5 - 100k...

Great looking collection! I think you started to answer the box question, but didn't. As far as the Avon Shuffle goes. I broke down and opened it. I decided i'd rather have it in an open box, but unused, with a working battery, then in a sealed box, never knowing if it worked.

I've seen this one and true, it IS a gem and you probably want a ridiculous pile of $ for it ;)

Under the 4G U2 box I have my boxed 1G opened and almost unused. The sleeve is "Alanis Morissette edition". There are everything but the headphones. I have more pods and mac's and I'm thinking of a way to present them in my house, but my wife doesn't agree with me :D

I also have a genuine "Say hello to iPod" poster wich I treasure. These are really hard to find!! I will soon have it professionally framed, but it costs a lot!

Yes, but I don't think that it cost more that the price in 2001...

This was at page 11 in the end of 2009

Soooo funny if you look at the market today :D:D:D

Hi,
I'm new to this forum...
I started my iPod collection roughly 2 months ago. I've still got a long way to go but nonetheless I'm in a decent position already.

So far I have;
iPod Nano 1st Gen
iPod Nano 2nd Gen Pink 4GB
iPod Nano 3rd Gen Green 8GB
iPod Touch 1st Gen John Lennon 8GB
iPod Video 5th Gen 80GB
iPod Shuffle 4th Gen 2GB

All the iPods above that I have are sealed...

I also have;
iPod Shuffle 1st Gen 512MB
iPod Shuffle 3rd Gen 2GB
iPod Photo 30GB X2
iPod Nano 3rd Gen Blue 8GB
iPod Touch 4th Gen 32GB

All these iPods apart from the Photo models are in very good condition. However, I'm mainly interested in collecting sealed iPods. If anybody has any duplicates or a few that they don't need, please can you contact me and I'll be happy to offer for them...

Thanks :)

Hi,
I'd like to boost my collection a little. Does anyone here have any iPods that are still sealed that they are willing to sell? I've seen a few listed on eBay but frankly they are not worth the prices being demanded of them currently. Does anyone here have any of the older generations still sealed and boxed that they are willing to sell. I live in the UK and can arrange to buy them through Paypal. I'll also cover the international shipping cost if applicable. Thanks

That is a great collection! I want that Apple-hater with an avatar of Steve serving Kool-Aid to see this. He might die of hate (not that I want him to die or anything, but it would be funny to see his actual reaction). Also, why does Kool-Aid = brainwashing?

You mean mint condition "sealed" or just in original packaging? Speaking of that, I bet a mint-condition original iPod or the special black/red version will be worth a lot someday.

"Sealed" should mean just what it is...unopened unbroken seal from factory!!
The U2 edition ipod and the first model of ipod already fetch a handsome bunch of $$$ (or for that matter)! Some people think they could get as much as 100.000$ for one, but thats just silly ;)

The ones that are hardest to find are the early Madonna-, Tony Hawk-, No Doubt- or Beck-edition. Harry Potter edition is REALLY hard to find :(

Its value is really what ever someone is willing to pay :D

There are a LOT of overpriced iPods on Ebay...nobody is willing to pay thousands of $$$ for a 10 year old used iPod ok?

Its really hard to say what its value is! It all comes down to its condition. "Mint" for me is perhaps not the same as "mint" for You! Do you have the box? Condition of the box? What's the serial number? What's the condition of the front AND backside? Is it marked on the back side? For me a good used iPod 4:th gen with excellent box, could be worth all between $50 and $200. A sealed one as much as maybe $300. But thats just me ;)

Just PM me if You have further questions...

Look at this auction on ebay...

1st generation Jimi Hendrix iPod (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120963539843#ht_500wt_1219)

"I am the original owner of this 1st generation 10GB iPod. It comes in the original packaging with the Jimi Hendrix picture on it. I removed the UPC from the box and have added a photo showing this - there must have been a rebate of some kind for me to do that to the box.
The only thing that isn't original is the headphones, but I am including the brand new ones in the picture. This is a true collector's item and is in working condition. Serial number on the about screen and the back of the iPod are the same. I have restored it back to factory defaults. If you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to ask and I will respond asap."

I have emailed the guy with some questions, but he hasn't replied yet
The serial on the iPod (GQ24500XML1) tells us its NOT a first gen and its a refurbished pod! This tells us he couldn't be the original owner, and the iPod does NOT belong to that box!! The guy has cut away the original serial from the box and bought a refurb, claiming it to be original, hoping to get alot of money for it!!

I'm curious...what is your opinion on "sealed" iPods? People in general seems to have some strange ideas about this.

I say a sealed iPod is an iPod inside a box, shrink wrapped with plastic, never opened, never touched by any human consumer hands! Nothing else!

No disrespect or anything towards MattyMac or anybody, MattyMac is a god to me starting the best thread ever in any forum, but the "don't-steal-music"plasic around the iPod itself is not sealed to me! It's very easy, if you do it carefully, to open and close this plastic again and again, due to its silicone glue.

I'd like to know what y'all think about this ;)

Don't get upset ;) With regard to the sealed ipod argument. I have had a couple of sealed in box ipods come accross my path (ipod mini 1st gen and 5th generation classic in 2010), but I opened them. Why? because I wanted to use the 5th gen classic, and I bought the sealed box mini just so my gf could experience the 'opening an ipod cube box' experience that she had never had.

If the price of the ipods sealed were to go up to 1000 ($1570), I still think the experience would have been worth it!

To me, once the box is opened, I can't even be sure that it is 100% new. So sealed for me can only ever mean in box and in the original shrinkwrapping

Ipod Nano 5th gen Yellow,Orange,Product red and Pink is what i want to finish my ipod nano 5th gen collection.

Also from the 3rd gen ipod nano line up,pink, product red and black are the ones i need.

Other then that i think that would be the ones i'm after for the time being. Will buy more 4th gen and 6th gen nano's later on and the older ipods as well.

I have to be boring I'm afraid.. my top 5 in order of desirability:

1. iPod 1st gen
2. an iPod photo to use every day
3. an iPod nano 1st gen
4. an ipod nano 2nd gen (product red)
5. an iPod nano 3rd gen

Then again, i'd like something that i feel is worth continuing to collect (the new ones just don't excite me much), and i'm turning to collecting ipads and iphones now!

mine are fairly typical, in all honesty :)

1. harry potter ipod!
2. gold 1st gen mini
3. 15gb 3rd gen
4. 2nd gen nano - product (red)
5. 1st gen ipod

i've always been in awe of the harry potter and the ipod minis - i guess thats cause they're the two i remember!!!

Yer.the third gen nano's are pretty good as i have silver, light blue and light green all sealed but i'm looking for the other three which includes the product red one.

....*sigh*...a tough one!

I think a boxed opened but mint 2:nd generation iPod. I only have them without the boxes.
A boxed 1st generation nano 1Gig white, to make the set complete
An iPod classic 160 Gig silver to use every day
A "Harry Potter", Madonna, Beck, Tony Hawk or No Doubt signature edition iPod
…and of course a sealed 1st generation iPod just for the heck of it ;-)

Fortunately I already have all product red ones

/Martin

I agree totally. I personally have started a collection of sealed iPods. So whenever I look at an iPod, it must be sealed in the box. I've often searched on eBay for new iPods and numerous times have encountered listing which say Brand new sealed iPod where infact the iPod and all the contents have been removed from the box even just for the photo, and the iPod has the listen to music responsibly sticker on. To me, and to most people, that is considered new and labelling it as sealed is a bit fraudulent.

P.S I'll try uploading a photo of my collection when I get back to the UK!

There is only 1 issue with "sealed" iPods: Is the iPod really in there?

Especially buying such a high value and old item that you never plan to open..its got to be too easy for someone to shrink wrap it and sell it on ebay. That is why Ive always kept my collection as "brand new" unless I personally bought it from an apple store...in that case I was comfortable with the sealed condition.

Just my 2 cents.

How exactly can someone shrink wrap an iPod. Is it possible? I thought it was possible but I've not seen any proof. Besides, you'll probably be able to tell between a factory shrink-wrapped iPod and a home-shrinked iPod!

There is always that possibility. When big $$$ are involved, people do anything to score. Unless you know a doctor, customs clerk or someone at the security gate at the airport, one can't be 100 percent sure. How ever, my personal belief is that its hard to shrink wrap it convincingly and believably! The question was how to determine wether the iPod is unused if the box is opened, which in my opinion is not possible if the plastic around the box is opened. I even approached you with this question in a PM, but you didn't even bother to answer me...

Good idea...an x-ray should do the trick! Sorry for not responding..it seemed to be more of a criticism than a question in your message so I let it go.

But yes you are correct...I guess there is no real way to tell if the don't steal music was ever removed.

I have also thought about this. I think someone else asked the same question earlier in the thread.
I do not think it is so difficult at all to wrap a box. If you work at a company with the right equipment, it's no problem at all.
As Fralle said, it can involve a lot of money so there are definitely people who are tempted to do it.

I tried searching on the topic before. I found nothing about iPods, but a lot about old video games. Apparently it is very common for video games. There were some clips on YouTube, where people tried to show how fake and genuine looked.

I myself think it's more enjoyable with sealed iPods. But when you buy an older iPod that does not have transparent packaging, there is always a risk that it could be something else in the box.

Criticism..? No, but you always refer to your generation 1 as "sealed" when it's obviously not. I wanted to know why you think it is sealed? Never mind now! It is a true gem, just the way I like it, box opened but iPod apparently unused, with the extra nice touch of the original shipping box :D

How would i tell if the actual product is in the box without using an x-ray.i have sealed iphone 3g 16gb,2x ipod mini(blue and sliver),ipod classic 80gb black and a ipod touch 1st gen 8gb which i can't see them since they aren't in a see though box.

Can you tell but looking at the shrink wrap.all mine has a line passing though on the side of the box with two horizontal lines at both ends.

You don't have to worry about that problem, I should think ;)

First of they are not that pricy models (yet) and second, as long as nobody proves anything else, there are apple products in your boxes right?

This why I don't like buying old iPods sealed! ;) Sure, I have some models sealed in boxes, but I also have the same models opened!

Here are my nanos and shuffles! I also have a touch 1st gen and some iPhones. The classic with swarovski crystals is a special bling iPod made by a company who existed a couple of years ago. The back side is 24 carat gold!
I also collect accessories for iPods

These are most of my boxed oldies! One of them is sealed and one is in a "Alanis Morissette" box.

Well here it is; My Very Own Collection!!!
I'm making it sound bigger than it actually is. I've been collecting for a few months now but not that actively.

My iPods are as follows;
Shuffle: 1st and 2nd Gen (Sealed)
Nano: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th (Sealed)
Touch: 1st (Sealed)
Classic: 4th and 5th (Sealed)

I also have 2 iPod Photos 20GB not pictured. My Blue 3rd Gen nano is used but in pristine condition. Apart from that, its pretty clear which ones are not brand new.

Well, I hope to keep updating the photos with my new additions. Thanks to one member on here who helped me acquire my new beautiful 5th Gen Nano.

And to Fralle. I'm now back, hence the upload.

Im going to try get at least one of every model sealed. I think the first, second and third classic models and the special editions will be pretty hard to get due to the ridiculous demanded prices. Therefore i may just try to get those particular models in good condition. Once i finish collecting one of each geneation, I'll go for non sealed as well as duplicates.

But, if you want to donate any duplicates from your collection, feel free :D

I dont remember an ipod were the click wheel actual turned. Anyone have any pics? closer up, thats a cool collection.

Yeah my brother in law has the 1st gen, I have the 2nd gen... the 1st gen is a real wheel that turns around while the 2nd gen introduced the touch wheel.

I can still recall walking around with my (expensive) iPod 20GB.. I was the only one wearing white ear buds and people on the train came asking me what kind of device it was. It was also hard for non-Mac users to use as the first iPods only had Firewire 400 and could not be read by windows (due to the Apple formatted harddrive in there). Only when a Windows version came out (the only difference was the FAT32 formatting) more people started buying an iPod.

Nowadays it's rare to find someone without an iDevice... :)

Have you checked the other links i provided?

The number 1 is the one sold by Mattymac. I didn't buy them from him. It fits the 30-pin dock connector exactly! They also comes as transparent. I should have had a size reference in the picture...the width of the number 4 is exactly as wide as an iPod generation 1.

I was also wondering, I don't like keeping all my iPods on display. The sealed ones I want to keep stored whilst I will display all my open ones. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can store my iPods. I'd ideally like a case as opposed to a box. I'd need lots of protection and also like to keep dust away. And preferably, I'd like the iPods to all be together. If not, it's not my biggest problem. Any ideas?

I use a plastic storage box with lid, bought at my local discount supermarket :D

They come both transparent and non-transparent. I use the non-transparent to block out the sunlight! I only store my doubles and extra accessories, because I want to look at my jewels every day :p

I have one of the original iPods from 2001. At $399, and since I needed it to help learn and memorize music for my graduate degree in music, I couldn't afford to keep it in the box. Guess I should've at least saved the box though. I still have it, and it still works. I actually like the physical clickwheel better than the touch-one. The battery doesn't last for more than 10 minutes anymore though. I guess I could put a new battery in it, but I hate to open it up. It's basically just collecting dust now, with a few important files backed up on its hard drive. I also have a pink iPod mini 1st gen, and an iPhone 4.

They are only in 16gb which cost $169AUD but that is quite cheap since the 8gb 6th gen was $199AUD back in the day and $248AUD for the 16gb.

Will be getting the product red touch 5th gen and the product red (NEW) shuffle which basically is the shuffle 4th gen which hasn't even changed since 2010.

I think Ill try and get all of the colours of the Nano AND the shuffle. I have already bought some of the shuffles ;) Its a costly process...I'm a bit reluctant about the touches. I think they are too "iPhone"-ish...maybe the red one

A new book ey? I'm also working on a book, but its a slow process for me! I'm not even shure if it ever will get published. I have collected tons of material during the years thou! I'm also a bit unsure on how my book would contribute to the history, after reading other books about the iPod ;)

Speaking of books...

Here are two of the best books on the subject in my opinion:

"The Perfect Thing: How the Ipod Shuffles Commerce, Culture, and Coolness" by Stephen Levy
"The Cult of iPod" by Leander Kahney

I must have read Stephens book about ten times! Its fascinating to read about the history of a device that really made a dent in the universe!! I love this book!

Leanders book is more like his other book "The Cult Of Mac". I recommend both!

I have some other books as well, but they are not nearly as good as these above. Can any one else recommend a book for us to read, feel free to do so :D

I bought two white 4GB Nano's when they came out.

I thought someone in my family had stolen them (nieces or nephews). I found them both tonight and am extremely happy. I'm not sure if they're gonna work, but hooked one up to my computer and it has 3 GB of music on the one and is charging.

I have both cases from Apple that they came in. I just wanted to share because I used them until I got my first iPhone. Now, I'm gonna use these... one for me and one for my son who was 4 when I first bought them! He's 15 now. (Someone correct me if my math is off... maybe he was 3)

I love 'em. 4GB of music that I worked hard to put together! :)

I'll post pics when they're charged, hopefully. :apple:

Well, I was watching this item go on eBay. I'd hoped that it wouldn't be noticed by most people so I could get it for a relatively low price.
Anyway, I saw that Fralle posted a link here and I've decided to post a screenshot of the ending price.

Just seeing this sort of makes me think is collecting iPods really even worth it?
It may be a fun hobby but is it worth it for that price.
I still have some way to go before I finish my collection.

If I still need the;
1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen Classic as well as both the 1st and 2nd Minis, seeing items go at this price and many users demanding even higher prices, it kind of makes me feel like I should give up on my collection. Why would I pay so much for them? :(

Anyway, here is the screenshot. Do say what you think, guess the gut must have really wanted it. But my guess is, the buyer just wants to re-sell for a huge profit later on.

Insane

10-year-old technology!! Would anyone buy a VHS-player from sony for this price?? Its not even the first gen, but a second generation! I also think the person bought it, did so with the intent to sell it and make a profit :(

I would NEVER pay that much for an iPod! EVER! I would rather buy 18 sealed classics or 30 sealed nanos or 93 sealed shuffles...

An iPod Collection seems silly. They become dated, and obsolete, there's nothing collectable about them, they are mass produced products. The only thing that would remotely be collectable is having a new in box, first gen iPod, and hold onto it for a couple decades to see if it might have value in the future.

Agreed. Does collecting iPods hurt anyone? Probably not. Are you gonna make serious money? Meh. But they're cool & fun. I have three, all in heavy use (car = nano, running = shuffle, storage/house speakers = classic)

I do think an iPod sitting around in a box is, well, just a box. But hey, whatever floats your boat!

I think a 7:th generation sealed nano will never be as valuable as a sealed 1:st or second generation now when people are aware of the presumptive collector value, but that's always the case in any collecting before people realize what is going on. Still, if you think a couple of thousand dollars for an iPod is not that much, go ahead now, because they are going up in value every day! And if everybody thinks a new 7:th gen nano isn't worth collecting, they too will cost a handsome bunch of money in 10 years time...trust me, I do know that for a fact!! ;)

In the case of the belt buckle, That's a rare and unusual item. They weren't mass produced by the millions. And $230 isn't that much anyways.

What makes you think that a current gen nano will be a valuable collectors item 10 years from now? The 2nd gen iPod is 10 years old, and look up how much they are going for on eBay.

I am a big fan of Apple products, but at the end of the day, it's just a mass produced device made in a large factory in china. It's not a piece of art, and the actual item itself doesn't have any historical or cultural significance.

It definitely has significance, the iPod in general, but NOT the actual, physical iPod nano that someone is holding in their hands.

The only exception being an unopened 1st gen iPod. Because it has more significance, and having a new one still in the box is rare.

My wife has a 1st Gen iPod in a drawer. Just grabbed it and it's charging now (glad I had a Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 cable and my iMac still supports Firewire 800). Nice to see what music she had in 2006.

Anyway you think it's worth putting on eBay? Screen seems okay. Back scuffed. But scroll wheel and everything is clean enough and working. We'll know about the battery soon.

I would definitely hold onto it. I mean, for decades.

What a good find Fralle. Very nice looking sealed blue iPod mini. Even the cardboard is original from Apple, I assume.

Do you guys ever worry about your BNIB iPods having battery leaks? I don't think they're quite old enough yet to worry about that, but the 8+ year old ones? Maaaaybe. It's not like old computers where the batteries were sealed in plastic cases, they're just in foil packs.

I started up my 2nd gen, 10gb iPod a few weeks ago and to my horror, the battery ended up swelling up XD It took about a week for the swelling to get down enough that I could open it and remove the battery. Thankfully, no leaking - but you'll want to consider that if you ever fire one up for the first time.

In a way it's pretty cool though, but I don't think I could have the self control to not open all of the packages. XD

To be honest, I haven't really considered this problem to much! I have never had an iPod with this problem yet, so...what do you all think?

What iPods are you looking for?

Out of curiosity? Are you getting the new iPod Touch 5G and iPod Nano 7G? If so, what color? (I'm assuming silver) :D

One of each model first, then ill be going for duplicates and different colours. If I find a good deal though, I may buy that item instead of another model.

I second MattyMac here...5000-10.000$! They are rare to find even for a experienced collector ;)

It depends what you compare it to

You don't necessarily need to buy a sealed one. You can always buy a used/refurbished one. Yes, it won't be worth as much in the future, but do remember its still a pretty piece of history :)

How much do used/refurbished ones go for?

How much do used/refurbished ones go for?

They vary. Anywhere from as little as 20 to a few hundred pounds.
It all depends on the condition, whats included and how lucky you are with the auction :)

Your best chances are to keep looking on ebay!!!

Just got this today, I know its not an iPod but definitely worthy of any decent collection!

Brand new iPhone 1st Generation 8GB! Had a quick look on eBay etc and can't find any of these for sale in the UK?

As far as I know its not worth that much at the moment, but in a few years, who knows?

I'm sure it works great apart from the lack of 3G, these things also have to best audio quality thanks to Wolfson audio chips. However I'd rather not unwrap it and use it, plan on keeping it for a few years and hope it gets a bit more valuable :D

Awesome! I still have two original iPhone models. Both with boxed and everything. But I'd love as still new one! Amazing!
