I still purchased a Mac. Apple.com (http://www.apple.com/) has a good deal on the iBook 800 with a combo drive for $999 (refurb), so I picked one up. 1/2 the price of what I wanted, and I had to face facts; $$$.

It is the machine that made me want to switch to Apple anyway (my ex-girlfriend has the same machine), so it is a natural choice I guess.

Picked up a refurb iPod a few months back, and I have been very happy with that, so the idea of getting a refurb iBook seems good so far.

I also got the airport card and 512MB of RAM (found thru www.pricewatch.com ). I should be good to go now! :)

Sounds like a good deal! How's disk burning work on these machines? Fast? Reliable?

Very reliable, although not fast by todays (52X) standards. Good enough for me though.

Good choice. That little iBook is a workhorse. I'm totally satisfied with it - it lets me do all my development work plus also use the iApps. I still think would buy an iBook today. Refurb is a great idea - I didn't go refurb because I bought the iBook 800 the day it came out, but my next laptop purchase will probably be a refurb of whatever the latest-generation iBook is a couple years from now (hopefully with a Gobi or Mojave processor running at about 2 GHz).
