Activated my iPhone yesterday and wondering if it really takes 5 business days...

Bought mine on launch day, it STILL hasn't ported but I have received a couple SMS messages stating that it will take place on Monday which is the 19th. Thats 10 days but it'll will only be the 6th working day so they say (when I phoned them about it!) that it takes 5 days to get ready and then it happens the next day (working day). I told her that I thought they should chanege the wording from "UP TO 5 days" to the actual truth!

Mine ports tomorrow apparently :D

but I got home and registered by 8pm fri evening!

I'm assuming that you guys have already been pestered by people wondering if you want insurance. At least I assume CPW have already sold my 'as new' o2 phone number to their affiliates despite me ticking the box otherwise.. Still come tomorrow i will be off the radar!

Oh dear.

I had hoped that "up to 5 business days" meant that it might take less than that...

In my case I wasn't able to port at the time of activation because of a glitch in the system. I had to wait from then (last Friday night) until Monday to be able to speak to the right department.

Should go through sometime today, 5 days later.

Just to be clear: you didn't need the temporary number at all - your old number worked on your new iPhone within 30 seconds?

I highly doubt he was an O2 CPW customer. My brother was with O2 and his ported straight away too.

Monday 19th seems a popular day - I've been quoted that for my t-mobile number transfer, that's 10 working days.

I'm an O2 CPW customer and my number ports on Monday 19th.

Bit annoying to be carrying 2 mobiles at the moment. Although provides a great contrast between crap O2 XDA and the iPhone.

Why bother carrying two mobiles? I've just put a divert on my old phone so that calls automatically come through to the iPhone.

What about text messages though? I get more texts than calls.

Good point. I don't really send or receive texts so it's not relevant for me. Anyway, problem will be gone soon. :)

That's actually 6 working days.

I'm not a CPW customer but was on Vodafone. My number comes across today apparently (16th Nov).

I activated around 7:30pm on the 9th Nov, so 5 working days. I'd kinda hoped that was the maximum, not the norm.

How far ahead did your text from O2 announcing the date arrive?

Mine came through on 12th.

Now my number has ported over SMS no longer works. Great, thanks O2.

Similar to other people - bought my iPod on launch day yet it will take until the 19th for it to transfer.

Annoying as I desperately want to skim this N-Series Nokia across Manchester Ship Canal

I bought mine yesterday and the number was ported today. So, uh, unlucky for you early adapters...

Took them roughly 12-18 hours to port it. Bought at CPW in Cambridge.

Not for me it isn't! Pish, these people who do a 5 day week... ;)

Were you previously a CPW O2 customer?

Bought mine last wednesday and I haven't even had a date for the port quoted. I've got days and days to wait yet, haven't I?

I was on pay as you go with o2. Maybe easier to port those numbers, who knows.

Weird, I assume my number is in the throws of being transferred (I was told Monday) because when I log in to my account, I don't now see my iPhone account but my old O2 account I had last year, before transferring over to T-mobile!

I have a feeling that our problems are nothing to do with CPW, but are actually the result of O2's inefficiency. I bought from the Apple Store on launch night and, as I have mentioned before, I was unable to port at the time of activation because of a computer glitch. I then had to wait until Monday morning to speak to customer services. They promised that my number would transfer on Friday. Guess what?

That's right: Nothing at all!

So now I have to wait until Monday to try again. I'm sorry to say that O2 are totally useless.

Incidentally, do they always send a text to confirm when the port is to take place, because I've received nothing?

No text on porting over for me (voda -> O2). SMS stopped working then started again on Friday. I'm sure they'll get you sorted on O2. Well, fingers crossed anyway.

Now I wish EDGE was more sorted than it is.

O2 did explain to me that this would happen after the port. Now I just need the port to go through, hopefully tomorrow!

Seemed you had more info than me. It was fixed within a couple of hours but not before me moaning about O2 to anyone who would listen.

It is for reasons like this these companies should make sure everyone knows the full details. It's bad for customer satisfaction (and PR).

I think all phone networks suck, so why did I expect anything else?

O2 could easily redeem themselves by sorting EDGE now. It's not like I live out in the sticks.

Back to your point. Let's hope they sort you out tomorrow.

OK. Last wednesday after I activated my iPhone using the generic CPW/O2 customer PAC-equivalent I received an email from the iTunes store saying my existing number would be transferred in "up to 5 business days".

Have existing CPW O2 customers who have already ported their old numbers always received a further message sometime before the port actually takes place giving more info about when that event was going to happen?

My 5 business days were up today and still no port or any port-related contact from O2.

When I rang them they couldn't find any records of my temporary number even though they could see from Caller ID that I was actually calling from it!

Eventually the friendly and helpful scottish person that I was speaking to discovered that I was expecting to port from CPW. She said that there had been a "glitch" on Friday which had injected two extra days into the porting process for CPW customers. So I can expect to port on Friday. Porting apparently happens twice a day - at 0900 and 1700. And I might need to switch the iPhone off and on again to make it work. She said that I was lucky because if I had registered my iPhone any later I would have to wait until after the weekend!

Does this extra two days glitch story chime with anyone else's experience?

Sadly, O2 are riddled with 'glitches'. Just keep chasing them: It's the only thing that works!

I take it all back [well, most of it anyway]. My number ported today just as O2 said. The whole process from my old service stopping to the new one being fully available took 15 minutes.
