I want my .avi files to open with VLC and not Quicktime, so other than right clicking and choosing VLC how do i set it so all i have to do is double click?

Right click on your .avi file but choose get info this time.
Go down to open with and change the program to VLC. Then click the change all button. Should do the trick!
