I request that comments about the directory itself be posted to the new thread, rather than here, so that this thread can stay focused on photo posting.

Wow, very nice.

Well here I am with my pal Rusty he just got back from the groomers for his summer hair cut. Goldens have a hard time in the summer if you don't get rid of some of the hair. As far as I go...I am NOT a cowboy, more of a farmboy. I trying the "drugstore cowboy" look. Oh if Rusty could talk he would tell you that Macs are the best too!

Yes, well I like to be a trend setter! (or just acting like a dork, which I am in this picture), but you see around Rusty it does not matter, cause he loves me unconditionally. If only everyone would love you the way a Golden Retriver does...:D

i live in an agricultural area in northern california and we had a longtime congressman who always stumped for the farm workers and he is loved by the hispanic community that he fits right into as a hero like cesar chavez...but he is actually sicilian and only his close friends who grew up with him actually know that
our longtime newscaster, who left because she married clint eastwood, is named dina ruiz, but she is also not hispanic but white, black, and japanese...and was adopted by a hispanic family...but like congressman leon panetta, dina ruiz is so loved by the hispanic community and if you go around telling people in the hispanic community that neither are hispanic, you will be laughed at
anthony quinn is mexican and irish but because of zorba the greek, he was the standard bearer for the greek american community and my wife's greek family saw him and still do as their hero...kojak was a later hero in greek america...and for decades it was basically those two...now you have the big fat greek wedding cast, yanni, mike and olympia dukakis, and pete sampras (just to name a few)...but not all in the greek wedding cast are greek as many know:p

LOL, a life, me?! If you only knew!!! More appropriate adjectives spring to mind like - malcontent, insular, anti-social .. my best friend is my iPod because it keeps me from ever having to talk to anyone in public. I'm also a Nick@Nite junkie! Need more be said?
Seriously, thanks very much for the kind words. It means a lot to actually be able to identify with people for a change! Reading the forums (especially when I'm at work) helps me to realise there are more mac people out there than I ever dreamed.
I look forward to eventually earning my stripes and becoming a part of this fantastic but oddly refreshing dysfunctional family.

You suck! I have class from 9-5 basically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and then 11 and 4 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I have an average of 20 pages worth of essays a week, and an average of 600 pages of reading per week combined for my classes at least. I was an idiot for doing a double major in Philosophy and Religion and a minor in Pre-Law. I might drop something because next semester and senior year are going to kill me for sure. On top of that, I've been looking for a weekend job to recover my bank account from my recent Apple shopping spree in the past month.

The thing is, my dad is a minister and being a private school, I get full tuition paid for by being a religion major, so I save quite a bit by going that route. It's really interesting stuff, just, it's a lot of work. I really wish this school had a Law major, but as it stands, I am going to try probably dropping Philosophy, finish most of my religion this semester or next, and then focus on Law so I can get into Law school after I graduate. But yeah, I am an idiot. At least I cannot complain about being bored.

It's not really that bad, I mean, the classes are really interesting and the work is manageable, it's just that this is midterm week, so everything is piled on top of everything else, so it's just hell week. i wish i could go back in time...when i was in my teens and 20s, the older people in society told me the best years of my life would be high school and college...but when i was in those times, i wanted to be a "real" person, all grown up, in the real world with independence with a job and place of my own
but now that i am in the real world, i find i have no time for the fun things i did a lot of in my youth like playing guitar at all hours and all volumes and laughing at the cops who came to tell me to turn things down, studying abroad in a different country just so i can cut class, and basically party five nights a week if i wanted...life can be extraordinary if you have two things going...youth to give you the energy and insulation from the grind of working to pay bills and paying bills to keep a good credit rating and having a good credit rating for possible loans, and having....etc etc etc:p

Since I'd be following this thread anyway, there is no work for me until a real photo happens to get posted. The purpose of the directory (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?threadid=41568) is to keep people from having to read through umpteen pages of this thread to "sort the wheat from the chaff" if they merely want a photo. The directory (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?threadid=41568) lets them get in, get their "photo fix", and get out, while this thread lets people do what comes naturally - react to the photos. A little steering back to topic may be helpful now and then, but I don't mind however it turns out.

So far I just use my PB to 'manage my digital lifestyle', music and photos on the go, email, address book, sync with iPod and all that good stuff. But I just downloaded the Maya personal learning edition, so hopefully I'll be doing some 3D graphics on it soon (that is what I do for a living, but on PC...yes, I know) or at least learn a new app.

What I dislike about poodles is the way that they groom them for the show circuit. Recently, I heard someone say that it was done originally for the protection of the dog. They would go into cold water to hunt. The hair was kept around the joints to keep the dog warm.

My dog is cute as hell and can be really sweet and playful, but I swear, the smaller the dog, the more vicious its teeth. Sometimes when I play or roughhouse with him he accidentally nips one of my fingers and he's put a pretty deep hole into my hand on more than a few occasions purely on accident with one swift nip.

I am saving up for a low-end 15" powerbook...it has all the features I need, including some I dont, and the screen size is just right for my needs! The 12" is too small for me in the long run I think..
Powerbook G5
Nov 9, 2003, 01:33 AM
The 15" is an awesome machine. When I got mine I was really worried that I'd be disappointed since it wasn't a beastly G5, but it's done nothing but impress me since I got it. It's the perfect size, has tons of features, looks awesome (and the aluminum feels nice to the touch), and when you see the screen dim and keyboard light up for the first time all you want to do is gather everyone up you can find to brag to.

I know that the 12" apple laptops are much more portable; ideally I'd have a 15" and a 12", the 15" being my main machine and the 12 I would take everywhere.
Unfortunately I need a laptop that will work in all instances. It is portable but the screen size wont be an issue. This 15" would be my main machine, so I really need it to do what I need at all times...
I dont know how to explain it. This 15" has to do everythign I need it to do, and that includes being easy on my eyes, and multitasking :)

tazo - you've probably done this already, but have you tried doing some freelance photography? i'm sure there are plenty of people in need of one in the seattle area. upstart magazine publishers, garage bands, hey - do some weddings. be an apprentice to a pro, get your name and work out there. it'll definitely generate revenue for you to pick up a powerbook which you could make more money on.
plus, you would be a freelance photographer, like peter parker. who would still be a student... like peter parker!

I'm not good enough for it....
What do you mean I probably have?
Besides I need a camera to be in photography ;)
I have only been asked to sell one of my photos, and I turned the guy down, because he wanted above a 5x7, the only kind I could offer him :)
My borrowed 2 mp POS sony wont do above that mind you ;)
Thanks for the idea though, it is just so hard to get started, in such a cut-throat market.
I am applying for as many jobs as I can find in a 2 mile radius...no call backs yet tho :(
Anyway....

The job market sucks right now, I've also been applying to jobs practically every day since I got back to school in September without a single call back. It's just not a good time to be looking for some work with the economy the way it is, unfortunately. My parents moved to Iowa over the summer and it took my mom 5 1/2 months to find a job and she had to go from being assistant vice president of a company in West Palm Beach making $85,000+ a year to a teacher aid in a high school making just barely $12,000 a year now.

You'll find something, it just takes time. I started my first job as a janitor for my church. Sometimes you just need to find someone who can help you "get your feet wet" so that you can have some experience to put into your resumes. It also helps to list anything you were involved in such as camps, boy scouts, any honors at schoool, etc. If you are desperate, you can just find a "lowest common denominator" job such as McDonalds or as I did, a janitor. It isn't something to be bragging about, but jobs like that don't require much experience but help show other employers that you can be reliable, on time, or just follow rules.

you've hit on the #1 problem of all college grads
tons of knowledge, plenty of in school practice, but 0% work force experience.
Thats why it is so important to get internships when your in college, get as much work force experience as you possibly can

My problem is that this is a tourist town so all the jobs want you to work daytime shifts and holidays, but because of school I have classes during the weekdays and we have to leave the dorms for holidays so it's difficult finding places that are willing to work around that.

It depends on what kinda job your looking for, the experience or things you were involved in have to be related to the work your trying to get.
it depends a lot on the kinda work your looking for aswell
i really wanted to work in video, i got my first job as a favour to film a wedding, and then another wedding came around, and then another and so on. i've been working for scraps, just bearly covering my expenses, but it's a start ... after a while of going into video places to pick up equipment, and supplies i started talking to the guys at the desk that hooked my up with guys that are always looking for freelancers... and then started making some real money.
the other way is to do stuff at school. i did a lot of video and photography work in highschool for my highschool, i also did a lot of the technical set ups for plays and assemplies - all that was work related experience, i didn't make money but i got the experience.
Now in college i'm looking to work in the School paper, i haven't really had a chance to start anything yet, since i'm still settling but eventually....
it is a hard path, and it's gonna cost you more then your going to make in the beginning, but if you stick it you, pay your do's, you'll be working.

thats cool ... sounds like the way to start
i'm torn between the D100 and the F100 from nikon
the F100 is the film camera of my dreams... the D100 would suit me fine i think, but i'm worried that the 3 frames per second, won't been good enough for sports...
and i'm also interested in being able to capture the individual dropplets of rain, and splashes, and i don't know if 1/4000 is going to be fast enough
on my F50 the 1/2000 is definatly not fast enough for a variety of water shot....
oops, i think we went a little off topic again

A little tourist town? I just noticed that you are in St. Augustine. That is the most beautiful town I have ever visited. We were on our way home from Ft. Lauderdale, our vacation was officially over, and we were broke. So, I was out almost out of film and couldn't really afford to buy more. Man, I really wanted to bring home more pics of St. Augustine. I'd like to go back one of these summers and spend a night or two there.

I have never taken a shot like that but the thing to do is to get behind ur tripod, aim the camera at the spot where the pic would be taken, and see if the lighting will be how ya like it.
Then just set it for say 20sec, and get into the position :)
