*cough cough* did I mention I'm using a HP right now..but I do have an iPod 20GB and I want to buy an iBook/Powebook 12" but at the moment it'd be cheaper for me to fly over to America, buy one and bring it back here than it would be to order one from the UK store!

But I do read this site everyday in the hope of price cuts, or at least something to justify paying the price difference!

One day though I'll have a laptop and desktop set up to be proud of!

Nice idea for a costume, Capt Underpants! It reminded me of this alien bug costume (http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=9250), with a head made from an iMac's packing materials.

And don't mind Powerbook G5 - he's just trying to push your button! Ha Ha.

That's a pic way back from october. It was a little before halloween. I could share a few more of just the costume, if you want to get a better view of it.

Yes- that is near dawn at Toroweap- one of the few great overlooks into the Grand Canyon in which the rim and river are visible. You get to readjust your perspective on your place in the universe there.

Now that this thread has "wound down" a bit, I can post something :)

I tried to do something in the spirit of Wardofsky's "camera covering the face". I'm not too happy with how it came out, but I can't be bothered trying to perfect it. Notice the hat and hood, I'm trying to cover up my ridiculously large mass of hair (I'm about 2 months overdue for a haircut). And ignore the fact that it's in a bathroom

Edit: I might put a "real" pic up once I've had a haircut (and found someone to operate the camera).

Edit 2: There's a better (although not much better) pic up now, so I'm removing this one due to self-consciousness

Still not perfectly happy with it, but better than my last one, in my opinion. I took about 20 of them and this one was the best  so I'm obviously not very photogenic :(

Edit: Now that I'm a mod I think I need to get a better picture up, so I'm removing this one in the meantime - I've never really liked it.

all I can really do on vert ramps is ollie to fakies and tailslides. I stick to street mainly. I like doing stuff over gaps like in my pick there. I also like to find ways to skate seemingly unskateable objects. I like to create when I skate, not just do tricks. its art. its about what looks good. how your body and arms move before, during and after a trick.

I even get paid to skate so I feel truly blessed. its like being paid to masturbate :)

That's a good thing unless skating leads to hair loss. :D I'm happy for you, in any case. Being able to do what you love is a wonderful thing.

Even skating over gaps is too far from the ground for me. Besides, I'm better on 8 wheels than 4 and I was always taught to keep my feet to the floor when possible. ;)

I need to go up to the local skate park on a busy day to do some photography. I'm just hoping that it's better than it looked at first glance. I think the $1 million didn't go far enough.

I still have my old Lombard series PowerBook, too. The thing just won't die. My dad made a deal with me that when it died, he'd buy me a new PowerBook. Years went by...a few more after that...5 years later I give up and ask my dad if his offer was still available and he helped me by paying half for my new PowerBook. But still, that Lombard is really nice and runs Panther with all its might.

Yeah, it was a lot of fun to do that project. I just wish that I had started with a less dorky picture of myself. I didn't realize when I began that it would be so interesting and worth keeping all the pictures as a handy reference.

Not sure I recommend you use my compilation as a reference, though, because I only posted about half the filters. I left out all the pics that made me look particularly fat. :p

I would love to post my pic(s) here but I have a problem.

Due to my participation in an art project of sorts as of recent, any and all pictures I have of myself at present are in the nude. Its not what you think. You can't see all of me. Just parts. Like my back...or my knee....or both...

That and they're all in black-and-white anyway.

But still, that Lombard is really nice and runs Panther with all its might.

yeah I'm currently running 10.3.1 on this 400 MHz PowerPC G3, 256MB RAM. Its running smooth, and seeing as I only need to use safari (and the original Unreal Tournament, when I need an action fix) it goes just fine. I have Appleworks too, but as Im bludging atm and not at Uni its not being used much. So yeah, this computer has done good by me.

I wish I could get a deal worked out with my dad like that too! Although, i will get my new pBook at 53% off Edu discount cost, because he can "salary package" it... mmmmmmm

And that's fair enough, I wasn't knocking you or anything - I was just making the comment that a question like that usually leads to "complications", if you will - kinda like the classic "does this make me look fat?" question wives pose to their husbands. ;)

My intention was not to tear into you by any means (note my wink at the end of my statement) so no worries at all. :)

who knows? Maybe, just maybe he was a little confused by the crappy webcam pics...thats a stretch though. If you want to get analytical about it, check back on vniows first set of pictures. There aren't a lot of men around with cheekbones that high, and there's also the issue of the feminine facial musculature, which is in women is usually much less defined and certainly less prominent. I dunno, if its just me speaking because i notice facial details like that (hey, an art minor's gotta be useful for something, right?), but there hasn't been any question of vniow's gender when looking at her pics.

Which brings me back to what i was going to post originally:

I don't think anybody is treating anybody like an idiot. They seem to be talking about it better than many would in the same situation.

It does seem a little naive to say, "what are you, a man or woman" and then "questions should only hurt when the answer bothers them". Most people are not comfortable thinking they are of indeterminate sex, so in this case, the answer (either a man or a woman) shouldn't bother, but the implication of the question (people can't tell what sex you are) may bother.

Some people don't care, and that is fine. Others like to project an image strongly feminine or masculine. That is fine, too. But sometimes some care should be taken. B&Wman does have a forthright attitude in other posts, so he can say it without coming across as too rude, if you are familiar with his posts.

funny. many of my friends and family have commented on how forthright I am. only one that really seems to like it is my wife :)

I am a simple buddhist, I mean no harm.. maybe it was too personal a question?

I don't see much as being too personal because of my free form of thinking. a question does not have to be answered after all..

I think forthrightness is a good quality as well.

But think of this. If you were asked, "Would you taste good slowly roasted in a hot oven?", the answer is immaterial... the question itself is enough to make you uncomfortable! :)

It has full XT but I have broken 5 rear derailleurs in the past couple months. And a shifter.  :p So i now just put on cheap Shimano Alivio rear derailleurs. It's just not worth putting a XT short cages on each time.

I bet you want to know how I break so many. The shifter was when I was riding "north shore stunts" like the planks in the air in trees. I bailed and the bike didn't fall well. The other times I have hit them on rocks on DH trails or the chain has jumped into the spokes after a drop.

This one is funny. Me and my friend Gabe were taking photos in this park and they had a big plastic fence keeping us away from the shore. So the fence was too fragile to jump over so I squeezed through the planks and took some nice photos on the other side. When I was returning to the other size my friend snapped this photo. I had to crop it because he had a nice 5mp camera. I look very silly but, I think it's funny. It looks like I'm stuck but I'm not.......(that big.) :p :D

but the site is fun to go through every now and then ... (mostly) ugly people trying to bump their self respect by putting a picture (on which they're on their best) there and hoping to get 10s. those pics are the most horrible ones and give a good laugh ;D

I'm wondering how come some pics show and some look like: Attached Thumbnails only, with no pic there. If it was only one or two I would assume the links didn't work, but there's too many of them. Clue? :)

Hey LimeiBook86 - where did you get the character/idea for the character "Mac"? Also, why does Mac fall over in your avatar?

I know it's *off topic* but I'll share it with you all.

My friend Todd drew a picture of me and made me look extremely overweight, with a oval shaped head and a large stomach etc... Well his version was very detailed and such. (you can see a variation of it on the flash intro to my page) My friends don't call me by my real name, since the school I go to is pretty small, I make up 99% of the Mac users, so my friend Todd started to call me Macintosh. Now all my friends just call me Mac including my Art teacher. So I drew a simple little character loosely based on my friend Todd's drawing. It looked like a normal human until I added a hump on his back for no reason, I was about to erase it when my friend started to laugh at it. That's when Mac was born...Why name him Mac? Well since it was supposed to look like me and my nickname is Mac thats what I did.

I drew the picture because I was going to include my character in a crude animated short (http://homepage.mac.com/ibook238/hashbrown.html) named Hashbrown, its not that good, you can't hear the voices, and it isn't that funny but it was just for fun. Now I'm making another movie that will be better and make more sense. (See signature) My friend considers my version of Mac to be totally different from his, which you would understand if you saw it. I have to find the original picture he drew, it has to be around here somewhere...

And to explain my Avatar, he is looking at you as if he was in a window, he takes a peek at you and he thinks you looked back, so he gets startled and falls over, only to get curious and take a peek at you again... :D

I might post a full thread about this with pics and stuff later. Thanks for your interest! :)

EDIT: Official "History of Mac" page which is very detailed, http://homepage.mac.com/ibook238/history_of_mac.html

Thanks again!

So....you are a guy?

Doctor Q
Sep 24, 2004, 05:06 PM
So....you are a guy?Yes. Male, married, two kids, a dog, and some "pet" spiders. And hundreds of stuffed animals (we're suckers for them), including a Jaguar that the kids named "Jobs".

That pole behind us is supposed to be the front of the line and the entrance is to the right in the picture. When they have Night of the Tiger, maybe I'll do what I did for Panther: show up late and take cuts in front of the first person in line! Actually, I went back to my place in line before the doors opened. And I didn't even buy Panther, because they weren't selling the family pack other than online. We dads need to buy in quantity!

If I were that Apple photographer, I would have cropped off the right side of the photo, so I (as me) wouldn't have been in it. Maybe they wanted to leave them all with that aspect ratio, but I think it's strange that they used this not-very-well composed shot, with everyone looking a different direction, and left us all in the photo.

Where was the picture taken Doctor Q? Nice hat and outfit. What is the emblem on the hat?The emblem on the side is a Q, just like the one on the front.

I set up the photo shoot by clearing the junk off the desk where I've been playing with my new iMac. I tried a lot of angles (with a friend holding the camera) until I liked the composition. Then I did a little Photoshopping to fill in the image on the screen. Here's what the original photo had on the screen, which is the innermost screen in the photo I posted, but scaled down so far you can't tell.
