I'm pretty much screwed, in that case. Both of my grandfathers are bald. My father is bald also.

I'm 16 and already talking about premature balding. What is this world coming to?

Don't worry about it - just wait and see. Like I said, that's the genetic side of things, but that by no means is the be-all and end-all. Plus, regardless, you can;t do anything about it either way, so why worry? :)

I am, in my mind, prematurely balding at the ripe life-age of 21 years old  I have had thin hair in the back common baldspot for quite a while, but it never really bothered me. Recently however, basically since last birthday it seems to have thinned out even more, bothering me a little but since I realize I have zero impact on it, there is no real point in stressing out (causing more loss :p). I don't like it, but I'm not willing to spend money on it and try to "fix" something that isn't "broken" in my mind. Sure I would love a full head of hair, but of all things in life, that is pretty low on my list.

any of the men worried about premature balding (or balding in general) try using "Nioxin" shampoo, conditioner, and treatment stuff. it is sold at most salons or professional "beauty supply" stores. it seems to help a lot of people out.
just a tiny tip. there's some great info on the net about male pattern baldness and apparently some good treatments. - if anyone is interested.
here is a link with some basic stuff (just so no on can accuse me of being overly lazy about it) click me (http://www.health.harvard.edu/fhg/updates/update1004a.shtml)

EDIT: i know this is a relatively traumatic and upsetting experience for a man, but from a woman's perspective it really doesn't mean that much. we worry about so many other things than a man's hairline. sure it's a plus to NOT have your man's hair thinning, but there are much more important things. ;)

My mother's father had hair until the day he died.

My father's mother had brown hair until she died at 86, she only had a few grey hairs here and there.

I will most likely never be bald. :P

Was watching tennis on the tele and noticed that Andre is bald (by blade) and yet still quite the pimp, so there is still hope for us all out there. You can see his head-stuble growing in a patterned baldness, but I doubt it gets to him any worse than a big match :)

To what iBlue said, I realize there are other things that are more important (houses, cars, money :p (rash generalizations of past relationships, sorry)) however to a guy it feels like a horrible thing to lose your hair. I am going through it and as much as I say it doesn't bother me, it does deep down inside, hence the recently shaven head (which had been done before) and the idea to keep it that way for a while. Just noticed Vin Diesel has a shaved head too (of course...but just saw a commercial) and he is hot right?

oh please, you are totally good looking, and i never so much as noticed a thinning hairline (and i fancy myself as rather observant :o) as hard as it might be not to worry too much about it, try... in the grand scheme of things it's not that big of a deal. {{{hug}}} i know it tends to freak guys out though, i understand that point; i'm just saying that from a woman's perspective there are many more important things ;)

oh bite me! :D (the star represents my old home of Los Angeles, for which i will always consider "home" :( the command key is just where i am forced to live currently. got it? there will be a test at the end of this post... :p )

"other things" - really? you want me to reveal those secret things that really matter to women? honesty can often be a bit blunt...
to name a few things:
*personality - self explanatory.
*money - yes, this is almost never admitted aloud but it does matter, anyone who tells you different is almost certainly lying. it's nice to have enough to survive and still have a bit of fun with, no one likes a struggle. plus women naturally like to feel comfortable in being taken care of. no money is not everything but it does play a quiet role. (yes, this is a generalization)
*goals/interests - similarities in this realm are very helpful
*creativity and intelligence - like duh and stuff... :D
*an air of confidence, without arrogance - underestimated power.
*nice body ;) this is always a plus
*last but not least - someone compatible with you in the sack. lets not pretend that isn't important, it most certainly is. a damn receding hairline is just the last thing on my mind in "those" moments.

there. i said it.

I'll add some to iBlue's list:
A guy who likes to cuddle
A guy who listens
A guy who isn't afraid to cry - this is a big one with me. C'mon, we are all human.
A guy who isn't a sheep. There are so many clones in the gay community. There are the obsessive work out guys, sometimes called RTDs (Rough Tough Dudes). There are queens. There are the horribly effeminite guys. Not everyone fits in a box! It isn't sexy when a guy smushes themselves into a box that they don't fit in.
This goes along with the previous bullet, but should be mentioned: A guy who isn't afraid to be himself. Me? I am a total nerd, I loooove cheap food, I secretely think I'm Asian, and I cry when I watch sad movies. If you are going to try to put me down because of any of that, then get the **** out of my way.
A guy who isn't afraid to be silly. This is also important to me. You can't be serious 100% of the time. You gotta have some fun every once in a while. My dream is to build a Japanese mansion with secret passageways and hidden rooms (a'la Hogwarts) - I know it is silly, but it's my dream home :p.

aside from the "be yourself" aspect, which i totally agree with, some of those aren't as important to me. (seriously)
i sort of freak out when people cry, i don't know what to do. i naturally want to solve the problem and sometimes people just want to cry (vent, whatever) i try to listen but i can't help but want to either help or at least to do anything to shut them up. [shrugs] i'm not a typical girl i guess. i don't handle emotion well.
i don't care for cuddling, i feel stifled/trapped/annoyed by it most of the time.
seldom do i cry, and if i do it is usually out of sheer frustration and feeling helpless (i hate that)

i don't know, i just wanted to speak on a very *nitty gritty* - "what a girl really wants" on a more deep and general note, because not all girls want those other things. ---not that i mind those other things, it's just not what matters to me truly.

Funnily enough, I seem to have a strange attraction to guys with thinning hair. My fiance is pretty bald (and has been since he was 20 or so) and it wasn't until a friend pointed it out that I realised most of the guys I've been attracted to have had thinning hair. I dunno why, but it's just one of those things. I wouldn't say I find bald men more or less attractive than guys with a full head of hair, but the ones I fancy all seem to be bald. Must be some strange animal thing  :p . I have heard that men with thinning hair have much higher testosterone, so maybe that's it. Not that any of them have been so-called tough guys - I am one of the (allegedly) rare breed that fancies the nice guys. But maybe it's that testosterone bubbling under the surface :D.

Anyway, I will stop this rambling account into "who Lau fancies".... :o

Speaking of crying, I was conducting interviews (English oral assessments) yesterday and one of the students started getting all choked up about a question. I waited for a second and then moved on to the next question. I felt pretty uncomfortable there for a few seconds so I can understand what you mean, iBlue. But, as scem0 also mentioned, I don't think it's healthy for people to keep stuff bottled up all the time.

Baldness: For the longest time, I hoped I would get a receding hairline like the one Bruce Willis had back in the Moonlighting days. Too bad it doesn't usually stop there, though. I like the idea of just shaving the whole thing off once it gets to a certain point. A couple of my coworkers have done that and it actually looks pretty good.

I work with quite a few guys who have done that as well. In most cases it looks better (as I can just picture them with hair and a nasty comb-over ) but some of them looks weird, and almost alien, or like they're a baby again - dunno, guess it works for some people and not for others...

Yeah, frankly I'm sick of holding back things to appease people. I wouldn't have considered crying in public 4 years ago, I'd do it in a heartbeat right now. I've come to learn that, however hedonistic it my sound, life is about making yourself happy, and only bringing 1/4 of yourself to the table won't make anyone happy.

As for the rest of your post :): Receding hairlines can be very sexy or very ugly.

Baldness/shaved is usually really hot, in my opinion, but looks very wrong if you have a small, or oddly shaped head. I don't think I have the head for a shaved head, but I like my hair anyways :).

Okay, bad shaved head story:

When I was in university, a bunch of guys decided to shave their heads. One guy was sawing off another fella's lid when he said, "Man, you've got some strange lumps and stuff here. Are you sure you want me to keep going?"

"Take it off," replies the other dude.

Once it was done, this guy had a massive Princess Leia/bagel thing going on. Seriously, the size of a bagel. He said that when he was young, he took a nasty spill and busted up his head. He knew the lump was there but didn't think it was that big.

Needless to say, he wore a ball cap for the rest of the term.

Greenwich Village is an excellent area. My brother used to live near there and I used to love walking around the neighborhood with him when I would visit. Alas, he just moved away, back to Canada (Vancouver to be specific), so no more trips to the Big Apple for me for a while. :( Of course, I love Vancouver as well, so now I have an excuse to visit there more often.

second and third was taken while camping in the okanagan.

fourth was a night at the club with the ladies for my birthday.

fifth.... i ate 4 slices of lemon. they dared me to.

first thing first, the old men were my fave part of the pic! they were bickering about who was to pay for icecream!

ooh thats my lady friend, we call her legs. and yah she gets it plenty. we each have our roles to play when we go out. in the night club pic, from left to right, we call her lady killer - cuz she takes all the men and gets mad at the ladies trying to retrieve the men. then there's legs - she's the show stopper, attention getter. and there is lola. hmm i guess she's our mole - she knows everyone you need to know at every club.

and no one has commented on my wonderful, yet wonky sand turtle.

So do your piercings hurt? A guy once picked a fight with me at the bar who had a tight shirt on and obvious nipple piercings, so I just elbowed him square in one of his rings and he went down like a baby - that was the end of that. Yeah, I'm a bastard.

piercings hurt? nope. my labret i didnt even feel them pierce, and i have had a girl bite the ball and pull on it as we were making out, it actually felt great. but thats just me. ears are obviously no big deal, although they are only at 12g right now, i am thinking 6 or 8 for the end, will be a lil burning stretching them but no biggie either. now the nipples i just got done on thursday (picture actually taken the day before) and they haven't hurt one bit except once, when i was at work and rather accidentally and harshly knocked into something, causing it to bleed a good bit, and it actually still has a scab on it. i have a huge pain tolerance level. so if you were to do that to me i doubt it would slow me at all. ;) but yeah some people are wussies about this stuff. i actually can't wait for them to heal so i can let someone have some fun with 'em.

none of my tattoos have bled, and my one piercing has bled a bit but only because it got hit while still healing. tattoos only hurt while you get them, then it pain is gone, they scab up, and then that flakes off and then its there. piercings require much more care though

Well, that's how it goes sometimes. I don't understand women either. Aren't we gay guys supposed to know more about them? :)

BTW- I'm not really into piercing and such, but I am fascinated by it. When I met Ron, he kind of put it in perspective. For him it's sort of transcendental. i loved the Solar Anus, haha, but im still exploring the site, seems like an awesome guy. and yes a lot of people think i am a weirdo for having piercings and tattoos, but here is the way that i look at it most of the time, no one is perfect, nothing is, and by modding my body and i just taking steps to make it more my own temple of perfection, as superficial as that may seem.... it will never be perfection, but i can try to get as close as i can.

edit: and lets not forget that i like the pain a bit, lets me know that i am alive and still growing experimenting and it gives you a rush. in this modern world i have had my body through the ringer quite a few times, desensitized would be one way to describe what has happened, so piercings, tats, mods, allow not only self expression, but also make me feel more vibrant and alive.

watching is sometimes worse, you over-imagine the pain because you aren't feeling it. no one went with me, maybe it was for the better, a personal achievement all to myself. i dont think i could ever get a PrinceAlbert, thats just not for me though.... ::shudders:: it does hurt to just think about it.

Oh no- I didn't feel attacked at all. BTW- I go to live shows all the time. I live in Chicago and can walk to The Aragon Ballroom, The Riviera Theater and The Green Mill Lounge. The Vic and The Metro are a 5 minute bus ride-don't know if you've been here, but those are all great live music venues. A month doesn't usually go by without seeing some sort of live performance.

Last race? Why?

It was the last race of the last swim meet of my high school career. Over the past few years I've done enough damage to myself (sometimes with the help of others) that I will not be continuing to swim competitively at any level...

I'll make a tally:
Collapsed my left lung (swimming)
Bad shoulders (swimming)
Bad right knee (heavy lifting)
Came within 1/2" of losing my left eye and have a scar to show for it (swimming accident)

Sorry for the late reply... to posts #1784 and #1785... I had NO idea anyone would actually comment about me.

And I think in a word, the answer to your question is "No". ;) Yeah, I know, probably not the safest thing (you definitely want to make sure they read your weight right!) but I can't be too picky about risk levels and safety if I'm willingly jumping off a bridge in the first place. ;)

Thanks, I'll put a few more up there once I get them from the girls. Those were just the two I saw and emailed to myself before we left. There are some fun ones of all of us in kayaks on the water too, I can't wait to get a few of those and see what happens :)

Agent Smith!Yup, wore that same outfit as a Halloween costume every year from 1999 through 2004... this year, I was going to dress as V from V For Vendetta, but now that movie has been postponed until March 2006. Not sure what I'm going to wear now.

Too much time perhaps, but funny. There is a slight resemblance, although I would say the RL version is a little more personable looking ;)

This is as close as I get to sky diving. This picture was taken in 2002 when I was a rookie at doing this riding stuff.

Sadly I no longer have that orange gear, and have switched to silver and black.

awesome pic! you should get some new orange gear!

I do wish I still had it, however when you are a rookie, you tend to crash a few times. I ended up ripping part of the leg patch off my left pant leg. At the same time my body ended up getting really bruised up on that side.

All is well, and I have actually gotten much more trim since then, and that gear would have been too big anyway. :)

I am keeping my eyes open for orange all the time though ;)

Good question. For a seemingly fun experience (game of some sort) I would have expected more smiling faces and enjoyable gestures. Did the mascot fall or get shot?

~Shard~ , if I did miss the first announcement, you have the maximum congratulations I can attach to a post, and if I didn't miss it, well then just refer to this post when the day does occur for all those congratulations (I don't want to re-attach and flood the servers  )

Actually, this week I am simply taking off work and doing NOTHING, as I didn't feel like going back to work right away. ;) The actual honeymoon isn't until mid-November, when we're off for a couple weeks to Hawaii. So, for now, I am just at home so I do have some time for MacRumors when I am not lavishing attention on my lovely new bride.

efoto, thanks for the congrats, it's appreciated! And PlaceofDis, thanks for providing the link!
