D70 ebay auction, lens question

I have no experience with those lenses, so I will not comment. However, I will say two things. First, I have done business with that seller twice, and would do business with them again. Second, I just want to make sure that you understand that the camera is not new. It is a factory demo (as was mine, and it was in perfect shape). There's nothing especially wrong with that, but I am just making sure you know it's not new.

I don't think it's a good deal.

28mm in a DSLR will become 28 X 1.5 = 45mm

It's better to buy a D70S body and find yourself a Nikon 18-55 mm kitlens or 18-70 lens.

I think the 18-55 lenses are very cheap but good performers. A new 18-55 lens with image stabilization is also coming out.

For the long range check out the Nikkon 55-200 lens or the more expensive 70-300 VR.

But for less money I would buy a new Nikon D40 with kitlens!! Of course the D40 only work with AFS lenses.

In a word "no."

First off, with the sensore size in the D70 you really do want a shorter (wider) lens. 28 is not so wide. So you'd be into byer another lens.
Even if these were the lense you wanted they sell for about $100
each. The D70 body sells for about $350 so the whole deal is worth about
$550 I'd say.

But then you have to think, why are you buying a _nikon_ camera? For most people the answer is "So I can use Nikon Lenses." S why get those cheap lenses? It is the lens that makes the image. All the body does is record the image. Lenses are what matter.

Mosty I've done well with eBay but watch out with camera sellers there. For some reason the scammers tend to use cameras. This one look abouve board bt just over priced for what you get, a two genaeration old DSLR body and a pair of cheap lenses that have not so useful focal lenghts

Hold out for a better deal on a D70 and look for the 18-70mm lens that Nikon sold with the D70 as a "kit" It is a great lens and the 18-70 range will do 90% of what most people need.

I would recommend a used D50, D70 or D70s over a new D40 if the buyer is or wants to be seroius about photography. THe D50/D70 can use non-AFS lenses like the primes and the older 70-200 f/2.8 any serious photographer would realy want these lenses and they will not work on the D40.

I would recommend the D40 for most casual snapshooters. It is smaller and easier to buy.

For a most serious shooter not on such a tight budget go for the D80 or higher and any of the lenses that are F/2.8 or faster.

If you are on a budgt it is hard to beat a used D50 with the 18-55 lens.
It's both cheaper and better then the D40.

I've had my D50 for two years now.. and I just now feel like I'm starting to use it's potential. It's a great camera... doesn't feel limited to me at all and it takes some really beautiful photos.

In the past I've been tempted to "upgrade" to the old D70, because it was a higher end camera back then.. but starting out I think the D50 was a really great choice as it presented enough challenge and difficulty to learn without going WAY beyond my abilities. I agree with ChrisA... the D50 was a great place for me to start.

The 18-55mm lens choice is optional though, it's the lens I use the least.

You can get a D70 body relatively cheaply from B&H or Adorama or KEH. Add a Nikon 18-70 to that, and you've got a great kit - probably for around the same price as they were asking for that eBay kit.

Two second-rate lenses do not add up to one good lens, IMO.
