i have these log files in my root directory of my hard drive on my powerbook (see picture). the 'book came from school with all the software preinstalled and now i cannot seem to either move or even delete these files. i have no problem having them on my drive, but i just find them distracting where they are. This is running OS X 10.2.6

can i get rid of these somehow? or even move them to the root documents folder, or something?

it's probably the case you don't own them. here's one way to get rid of them:

1. open the terminal app
2. type: sudo rm -f
3. put a space on the end of the line
4. drag the file icon from Finder to Terminal
5. the complete path of the file should appear in the terminal, completing your "rm" command
6. hit return
7. at the prompt, type your password
8. repeat 2-7 for each file
9. done
