i'm confused of what route to take:
A. whether to buy a fully maxed out MBP online or

B. go to the Apple Store in Walnut Creek, CA and hope it has this configuration in stock:

2.4 Ghz
2 GB (or 4 GB RAM upfront)
200 GB 7200RPM HD
1920X1200 Hi-Res Glossy Screen

Another Concern...
1. when i'm buying online
Shipping/Delivery: which type of delivery option should i choose? which is fast, good and reliable? is it UPS or FEDEX that delivers?
I live in Vallejo, California, which is northeast of Oakland/ San Francisco

2. Lets say drove down to the Apple store in Walnut Creek and it doesn't have the configuration i want. what do i do? will the store employees help me with this issue?

Never buy anything but the standard RAM configurations by Apple, or you'll pay 3 times as much. Of course, you have the convenience of the service, but the price does not reflect that accurately(it's rather painless to do yourself; there are even online step-by-steps)

You phone them first to find out and you ask them to put one aside. ;)

I called my local store and asked pretty much the same thing (except 15"). The girl told me that the stores don't carry anything but stock configured Macs. All upgrades/changes can only be made by ordering online.
