HELP!! Locked iphone in Australia

HELP! PLEASE!

A friend bought an iPhone for me on the internet with it unlocked. I downloaded software updates and now its says that i can not activate the iphone without a valid sim card. I of course do not have an AT&T sim card (being in Australia). So I can not do any of the unlocking techniques I have found on the internet so far.

Please can anyone help me???

2. Did you install OktoPrep before updating?
3. Which method of unlocking did the phone had?

no i think its bricked through using anysim revirginize the iphone go on googe and type in iphone elite dev team and download the virginizer or use idemocracy. Any who if you want a fully unlocked phone use iphonesimfree its better and it is fully usable on all firmwares :D
