I'm not using OS X yet, either, but when I do, I want to get that nifty Marine Aquarium screen saver.

Marine Aquarium here. It's really quite stunning on a 20" Cinema Display. :D

i dont bother with a screensaver. my machine is never still long enough often enough to worry about getting burned in - with screens these days it would need to be on for months and months to get burned (unlike plasma TV's - beware.) plus the screensaver just uses the processor & videocard for no good reason.

Flurry rocks :) Although sometimes I have Fireflies on instead.

I just have it blanking the screen. I did have Flurry, but it got annoying when I was trying to sleep and there's flurries flying all around the room.

I don't use a screen-saver. I have the monitor set to power off after 10 minutes in energy saver.
I do however run screen-saver on my desktop using BackLight. I currently am using a screen-saver called Cyclone and the other one I use most often is an astronomy one called CosmoSaver. I find the stock screen-saver that come with OSX to really boring so I have about 30 ones I found that I run on the desktop.

I have about 30 screensaver modules installed, but always opt for flurry. I used to always want to use it on my iMac, but the graphics card just couldn't take it. Now that I've got a good card in my new Power Mac, I love watching flurry. It's awesome! :D

I occasionally try out other screensavers, but I always end up coming back to Flurry. I actually found it BEFORE Apple made it standard on Jaguar (it was originally a third-party screensaver), so I should get bonus points for that. :)

No "screen saver" for several reasons:
1. My screens don't need saving (neither do yours)
2. I'd rather use the cycles for Seti@Home
3. I'd rather the monitors go to sleep after 10 minutes and save the heat output

Mine is set to folding@home but regardless the screen is set to go off under energy saver after 30 min.

I have my display go to sleep , rather than use a pretty screen saver. I think it's a waste to burn the display with compelling screen savers. I spent a lot of money on this thing... I want it to last.

Which is really good for me because then I turn Password Protect, stopping people from getting into my computer.

I have my iBook set to sleep before the screensaver can come on but it is set on "pictures" so I can show off my kids without loading iPhoto! :D Some of the picts I use are here (http://homepage.mac.com/steenfamily/PhotoAlbum11.html) on my .mac homepage.

if you got the video card for it, try out Fluid (go to Versiontracker). It's a processor hog, but it looks sweet.

I'm using this sick-nasty openGL screensaver called Fluid - it simulates liquid moving around on the screen, and you can change everything about how it appears. It will distort your desktop, any picture, or you can have it be over whatever color you want. You can set the viscosity of the liquid and what is reflected in the bubbles. It uses a true liquid dynamics engine to simulate the liquid motion - and it does it well!

For the 10 minutes before the screen goes to sleep, I use sno (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12724)
It also can run as a backround app so that a snowstorm appears while you're working.

I don't use a screen saver as it used to crash my machine, and even 2 weeks ago my friend experienced a power cut while in sleep mode and she needed a new motherboard (still under warrenty thankfully)!

Yep, there's an OSX version out.
anyone know where I can find one called,
Bad Dog?
I remember a co-worker had bad dog on their computer back in the early 90's it was really funny as a dog would tear holes in the screen and rip wires out and then this dude would come out from the side of the screen and say "bad dog" and then the doggie would whimper but then a few minutes later he would tear out wires again.

Was using babysafe but the demo ran out. The kids love it. I love matrix stuff. Xirtam is way better than red pill. I only use it because I have the children around so I lock off the screen. I would prefer to have babysafe running on one of the machines but paying without a credit card can be an issue.

I'm feeling geeky these days. This is a fun little screensaver. I run it as a desktop background with backlight.
This is a great way to show off to your friends!
I encourage everyone to check it out!

I run screen effects on the desktop using Backlight. It allows you to easily set it's priority which I have set to +20. Also the processes are primarily take over by Quartz Extreme anyway.

No saver here either. S@H runs for a minute then blanks, energy saver kills the monitor after 15 mins. I have 4 Macs running S@H 24/7, all set up the same. Will be 5 when my new duallie shows up.

I know why we need screen saver for CRT monitor, but I am wondering if we need it for LCD?
btw, like someone above, i use OSX but i don't use any screen saver. i do use energy saver though.

There's no need for screen savers for CRTs either. At least not on any monitor made in the last 10 years. There isn't anyway for LCDs to burn in since the screen is just making a pixel of the screen either reflective or translucent depending on the technology. It's not actually producing light from those pixels. There is the possibility over time for a pixel to get stuck one way or the other but in terms of regular use it's highly unlikely that you're going to damage the screen in anyway with the way most computers are used.

Red Pill mostly, but Marine Aquarium gets a lookin occasionally, I tend to use it as a security feature when I'm in the office but away from the desk.

mine is set to saver after like 10, sleep after about 30... i hadn't used one in years, until Flux came along. It's very similar to many others out there, but it has a more tranquil feel to it... plus the repeating set is much longer, so you don't see the pattern as quickly.
it actually looks a lot like an iTunes visualizer, when the music is off.

I used Flurry in 10.1. I prefered the non-Apple defaults better. I'm not sure why Apple changed them.
I now run Red Pill. It took some tweaking to make it just right. The "fly through the letters" setting is bad (ie. you never saw that on the Matrix). I've got it set very low so you get a slight perception of the screen moving towards you. It's freaky.

Is it just I, or do MacPoll titles constantly end with unnecessary preopsitions? Phrases like "were are you going to" and "what is it set at" are not only incorrect, they contain an extra word at the end that normally someone wouldn't have to bother typing!:o

There are bugs with the Mac Folding@Home screensaver that can prevent your results form being delivered at all. I think this may only affect modem users--it wasn't easy to find the documented details, but it's a real issue. My Mac worked for months for nothing.
Use the standalone (or console) versions instead. (Plus, those run all the time--WITHOUT slowing down other apps. So more work gets done than the screensaver version can achieve.)
That's why I have the Computer Name screensaver: it doesn't take much CPU time away from F@H!

Both Matrix movies have you fly through the letters it's part of the intro when they fly into the name. The only time you see them in 2D is on the operator displays on the ships.
Personally I think the fly through is the best part of the Red Pill Matrix screen saver. There are about a half dozen other Matrix screen savers but they are just the green cascading letters without the fly though effect which is quite boring in my opinion.
