help with time machine

i hve my Hd hooked up and everything is right as far as i know, i have TM turned on, and it says it will update within the next hour, butit never does, it shows the last back up as the 15th. any help?

does it say preparing in time machine preferences? this happends if a time machine backup is interupted during a backup i.e. power loss. this happend to me and i left it for a few hours and ended up working again.

it still hasnt backed up and its been connected all day. it doesnt even say when the next one will be. Im in the middle of editing a huge batch oh photos and id like them to be backed up easily

Try right clicking on the time machine icon in your dock then backup now.
