Too Many 5300s!!!! What do I do with 'em?

Well the title pretty much says it all. I got
4x PowerBook 5300cs (2 with 24MB RAM 2 with 8MB RAM)
4x chargers
Short of using SimpleText to speak things, what the heck do I do with them? I want them to be useful, and as far as I know they're worthless. They all work BTW.

Any ideas?

Just foolin' around on t3h interwebs, mostly, spend half my time on the local CL, another 1/6 playing Reckless Drivin', and I occasionally get the urge to play with Garageband. My point is, I already have 2 iMacs, a Powerbook G4, 2 Sawtooths, an iBook G4, a 7500/G3, a Mac SE, a Mac Classic, and a Performa 405 (sorry, long list) so I don't really need to do anything in particular with 'em.

In fact, even my ancient Mac using needs are covered.

My little sister does get a kick out of Text to Speech though. :D

Do you have other old macs? A great idea is a mac room in your house, i.e, the bar is clear plexiglass with old monitors inside all functioning and displaying something. a coffee table with its surface comprised of apple newtons, you can always think of something creative. They sound pretty much worthless unless you wana sell them to sum1 or go ahead with a "Mac shrine". :D Good luck...:apple:

You could put them on the LEM Swap list, see what people will offer you in trade. Maybe some upgrades for your other macs, or other powerbooks.

My shrine will be complete soon. I may need one. Start a thread in the marketplace. or update my "I want to own every powerbook ever made" thread.

Here was my idea: I was thinking of putting "L" shelves in a corner about 14" apart from floor to ceiling. Run the power cords down the middle. Make them all do slideshows of my iphoto library (the ones who can). The 100 150 and the 180 (greyscale) could maybe just run After Dark.

Also, I do have a 5300. I bought it off of Livingfortoday. It has a little trouble booting sometimes but I basically paid shipping for it. I could always use a backup though! Why do I keep buying macs?? Why?? I just bought an SE today for $30. no reason. I just didn't have one of those. Why do I have this compulsion??

That sounds like a pretty neat idea, I wonder what the power drain would be on those, though? I mean, I doubt it's very high, but combined, maybe it would add up.

Would you turn them into photo frames, or keep them whole and running?

Nothing wrong with GIFs! Seriously though, a 603E can do JPEGs. I used to have lots of JPEGs on my quadra 040:cool:. Its not like I am trying to play COD3 on a Color Classic. Although I have played Warcraft II on an LCII. It just works, don't ask me how.

Hey all, I just got an offer for $90 for all of them, and I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it. I have so many computers in my room now, they don't get used, and I'm gonna need a laptop for high school, so...

However, if anybody has a compelling reason for me to keep them, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Wow has it been a while!!! Anyway, I'm not selling them. I might give one out as a christmas gift.

AND

I could convert one into a web server. Run it headless and figure out how to make a homebrew case for the display. Then I could display an iChat on it.

Another one, I could put on my Apple Shelf.

Another one I could stick in an eMachines case I have laying around.

I can get 5 JPEGS on a floppy. It would take a while. Or you could network it, that would be easier, if you have a lot.

I made digital picture frames out of four 5300ce's (active matrix screens) about 4 years ago. They still run 8 hours a day!

Yeah, the 5300ce's would tend to run better as picture frames, cause they've at least got active matrix displays. Mine are currently in a cardboard box. It's all so sad... :(
