Is it possible to customized the menu of the AppleTV? I have been thinking of getting a second unit for my childs room (7y.o.) but want to limit it to only the movies menu and then sync the specific movies which we think are appropriate for her age.

Any advice would be greatly appreciate.

You'd have to 'hack' your AppleTV to remove menu items you don't want afaik.

Just sync the movies, then eject it from your iTunes on the computer. Once it's ejected, the ATV shouldn't see the iTunes library (I think).

She'd still be able to youtube, etc... unless he disabled the ATV's internet access.

I am certain it would be a hack, however how would I accomplish this? My goal is to do away with the DVD player in her room and only have the AppleTV and TV.

FWIW, I have a fairly substantial DVD library (approximately 450 disk) in the process of being converted to .mp4 files (with Handbrake) which look great with the AppleTV set to 720p (native resolution of my TV)

I have a 7yo daughter myself. You can disable youtube in the parental controls behind a password. But yeah the only way to keep it from an open iTunes library is to disable the network setting, which you may not want to do. I just sync all the age appropriate movies plus her music playlist, and stream the stuff I don't want her to access. She's not going to go selecting another source by accident.

Move or rename the .frappliance in the /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/PlugIns directory. I use this method to hide the TV Shows menu item, since I do all my TV watching through ATVFiles or Sapphire.

Do you know if it is possible to change the order in which items appear in the menu? I would like to have Music appear first in the menu.
