Not sure if this is in the right forum or not, but here goes nothing.

I'm a relatively new macbook user, and I am wanting to start backing up my DVD collection onto my macbook and then burn them onto blank DVD-r's.

Any suggestions on how to go about doing this? I have heard that I should download MacTheRipper to rip the DVDs to my macbook, but from there how do I burn them to a DVD-R? Do i need to buy any software or is there freeware that will do it?

Thanks!:apple:

MacTheRipper (MTR) --> DVD to HD

Option A:
DVD2OneX --> Shrink to DVD5 size
Toast --> Burn your DVD

Option B:
Toast --> Shrink to DVD5 size and burn your DVD

Some of us prefer the result from DVD2OneX. Others are happy using Toast.

For all the DVDs I've ripped (legal of course) that were too large for single-layer DVDs, I've encountered only two or three that when removing the menus, trailers, etc., in Popcorn, that remained larger than 4.7GB. 98% of the DVDs fit, and the added benefit is that the DVD becomes a turn-key ie, put in disc, auto-start.

Don't bother shrinking ...
