View Full Version : like my new design?

I have been developing a new design for myself to show off my skills as a freelance web designer and would like an opinion on it. BTW: it is still in progress, it takes a while to load (I am yet to optimize it), I am yet to try it on IE and the background is way too small for any normal sized screen. I would like constructive criticism. So as long as you have a suggestion, be as harsh as you want.
the site is at http://tominatedsoftware.com/create/

besides the load up, i like it a lot. however, the text right under create cuts off that first letter.

i like it a lot though

that's probably due to the screen resolution you have. I'll fix it by making the z-index higher

Really nice, apart from the load time:D
Oh and you know the links/menu? (Portfolio, contact, stuff), well when you hover over them, they disappear but if you rest the cursor on them they appear with a "halo" under the words (like I suppose they should).

(Safari 3.0.4)

The disappearing thing is because the hover images have to load. Like I said, the site is yet to be optimized.

Very nice design, and it didn't take long to load here...
and IMO the brown background behind the paper isn't really nice,, but that's just my thought

Unless you have a plan to use it for some sort of 'education' site, I am personally not a fan. I'm at work on IE6 on a lcd with 1280x1024 and the site just seems way too big.

WOW. i just spun around and loaded your site on my MBP and it looks totally different in Opera 9(my browser of choice :) ) on 10.5. I'll post pictures of both after I get off work and can make the pictures not obscene in size.

the site really sucks in opera and ie6 (like i said, work in progress. I only started to slice the graphics up today). Can you define what you mean when you say it seems to big? do you mean how much room it takes up or something?

In my opinion it seems like the elements are kinda spaced out on the pallet, if that makes sense, It seems like it is just elements slapped on there, I think you can make it work if u contain them all some how.

I think if you should make the brown background take up the whole screen.

Also you need to think about what happens if you add more text or make the current text larger, because at the moment… Whoops!

The background image alone in 500kb!

this doesn't scale well, either large or small.

woah! This is creepy

Your site looks freakishly similar to the redesign that I've been working on, like really similar (not trying to insinuate that you stole it tom, not sure how you would have as I haven't posted it for critique yet. Just saying that we must have similar taste)

Any way needless to say I like it, not so much the create part, unless its part of a greater theme.

I'm on my iphone so I'm not sure if the is the same in other browsers, but your paper starts really low down on the page

I mean it just seems like the site is made to be seen by someone with a huge resolution monitor and I'm left out in the cold with this 1280x. Maybe better worded, it seems that all the fonts and everything just seem very large and the amount of space it takes up seems excessive to me. I'm by no means a pro designer. Just a guy who has seen a lot of websites.

I really like it. However the text in the top line dissapears behind the navigation. But apart from that I think it's neat. The circled nav links to indicate current are a good idea.
