I have an over the air HD digital signal (via rabbit ears) and I was wondering if there is a product that would let me use my G5 iMac as a storage device/HD DVR. The apple TV does not really allow this (yet). Has anyone had success with the El Gato products? I just don't know if they would work for HD using my computer - the web sit says you need a dual powerPC or an Intel dual core for 720p or 1080i. I want to watch the recordings on an HD TV not the computer, so am I still constrained by my G5?

I may just have to wait and cross my fingers that apple will release a DVR...

I've had great luck with El Gato. You will have to consult their system requirements for each tuner, but even if your computer is not equipped to playback HD—you should still be able to record it.

You will just have to convert it overnight for playback on your Apple TV.
