Aftermarket Chargers?

I need a car and wall charger for my iPod Touch. Obviously, I can get them on the cheap off of eBay rather than buying them from Apple. Is this safe? I don't want to ruin my $300 device to save a couple bucks.

I don't know about the touch, but I do know that several of the aftermarket chargers that worked fine with previous iPods don't work right with an iPhone. There have also been other changes to the recent crop of iPods that might affect this.
