24" Aluminium iMac Kernel Panics

Hi,

I have taken delivery of my 24" iMac with 2GB RAM, Apple fitted. I installed Leopard on in, ran Software Update, luckily (or at least I though) it came with the latest graphics firmware.

Then, kernel panic, reboot, another kernel panic. They seem to occur at random times during use but for similar reasons. I have tried re-installing, repairing permissions, verifying hard disk and re-seating the RAM. Still I get the kernel panics. I have outlined the logs below.

All the TechTool tests pass without issue, I have not done anything to customize the system, no Boot Camp, nothing.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong / how I could fix it or is my iMac going back to Apple?

I've carried out some more testing on the iMac. I've reset the PRAM, NVRAM, still getting kernel panics. I've also run Apple Hardware Test extended test and it passed with flying colours.

I'm just reverting back to 10.4 to see if that helps. Has anyone got any other ideas as to what this could be?

Lots of folks have had issues with 'upgrading' to Leopard. I did an archive and install and have not had any problems. Perhaps you ought to give a full 'fresh' reload a go.

Unfortunately it is force of habit for me to do a clean install, format the drive etc, still the problems persist.

how about running diagnostics on the machine? hold "D" down when you boot the machine from power off, it should load some diagnostic software to test your hardware for issues.

I have the same system but with 4GB ram, and have had one of these errors, just this past weekend. I didn't seem to be doing anything special, but luckily it hasn't happened again. Hopefully it was an isolated case.

I tried the hardware test. All the test's passed but still I get the kernel panics, I've boxed the iMac back up and i'll be ringing Apple tomorrow.

Call Apple, seems to be one of the instances where similar errors are happening with Frontrow, Dock, istat, etc.

Which could be a logic board issue.

Especially since there are so many apps involved, but similar crashes for all.

So it'll probably be a logic board.

I thought it may be a logic board issue, it's typical isn't it, I wait till the graphics issue is fixed then I get one with a dodgy logic board.

Thanks for your advice everyone, made the phone call this morning, twenty minutes including 'hold' time and they are dispatching a new one to me today. I didn't even have to argue my point.
