Are the car chargers really that bad??

I read the reviews on apple about the car chargers that are available. The Xtreme Mac one reviews say it doesn't fit and sometimes causes a burning smell...it had horrible reviews...

Is there a car charger that is actually worth the money and doesn't destroy your phone?
