View Full Version : 3rd party RAM for iMac?

Hey all, I have decided to replace my crushed macbook pro with the 20 inch alum. iMac. I want to get some RAM elsewhere, and found this 2 GB stick, check it out:

Would that work? Is it compatible? If not, could you guys recommend some cheap 2 GB sticks of RAM I could pick up to put in their? thanks a bunch.

You missed out on the $39.99 and $59.99 deals posted here earlier though.

I took a look at Crucial and was sold. 2 GB for 56 bucks, looks good. I will check out the others as well.

It depends on if it's a kit or a single stick though.

yeah, I just found a 2 GB for 69 bucks. I appreciate the help, thanks a ton.

This was a single stick, the 55 dollar one was a kit. I think I will be getting the pricier one from Datamem, it's got a lifetime warranty and only takes up one slot.

If your RAM in your MBP is intact, it should work in the iMac.

ooh, that's a good idea. I have to figure out if my friend is going to buy it for a project computer, though. He fixes macs, and he might get it to see what he can do. If not, I'll definitely take the RAM from this puppy.

I would always err on the side of quality - RAM takes a thrashing in unix like operating systems such as mac os x, and high quality matched ram is important for C2D processors too!
