On another board I post on someone brought up this question and it's getting pretty heated. Names are being called, families threatened, etc, so I figured why not bring the thread here and see what develops. :)
Preconditions:
Both using white bread.
PB&J consists of ONLY PB&J
Grill cheese consists only of cheese.

Cheese on toast is the hot snack of champions.
A mature Cheddar or Red Leicester is the cheese of choice for such a dish.

Red Leicester deffo, although for me it has to be wholemeal bread.

Ooh, cheese, no question. I had a cheddar and pickle (Branston (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Branston_Pickle), not gherkin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickled_cucumber)) toastie for lunch today. A nice variation is Stilton with some sliced grapes. :)

Grilled Cheese destroys PB&J hands down. Add tomato soup with that Grilled Cheese and you've got the meal of champions.

It's "grilled cheese", not "grill cheese", but yes, it's inherently superior to PB&J, which is frequently yucky.

Grill cheese is amazing, but I don't let myself indulge in it as often as PBJ... Also it's really meant to have a tomato in it, in my world. Although with some tomato soup, I could also be content.
So alas I voted PBJ....
Oh, wait, frack... PBJ on white bread? I don't really eat white. I only eat wheat...hmmm...

Grilled cheese for sure.
I think I'll make myself one here soon:
Baguette, grilled with butter and garlic brushed on it
Comte and Gruyere for the melty cheese part.
Perfection.

I was very shocked when I saw the results! I don't like GC as much as PB&J. GC is too strong, sometimes. But it's great with some tomato soup.
But I'm sorry, PJ&B (if made right,) is the best sandwich. With Milk.

Daytime/early evening/maybe even dinner - grilled cheese, preferably on texas toast with equal parts yellow and white cheese. Also preferably with soup.
Late night - peanut butter on buttermilk or oat bread and an icy glass of milk.
So I vote for both.

Tough choice.
I like PB&J on toasted wheat bread. sometimes the toast is still warm other times after I make PB&J I put it in the fridge to cool it off for a hot afternoon.
A GC has to have better than cheddar/kraft cheese.
Will not touch white bread.

Dang that's a tough one. I absolutely LOVE grilled cheese. But PB&J is also really good.
When it all comes down to it, I can only have two grilled cheese sandwiches before getting sick, but I can have like 5 PB&J, so PB&J wins.
Although no white bread for me-only wheat.

Nov 29, 2007, 11:35 PM
Very tough choice. if I'm making it, then hands down PB&J it is. I love the way I make it... either on a toasted bagel, Italian bread, or just plain wheat/white bread. Milk or Yoohoo to wash it down.
Now if my mom is preparing the meal then grilled cheese it is. Because she makes the best GC in the world. Sometimes even add some sliced pickles. What a treat!

For grilled cheese sandwiches, I prefer mine on 2 pieces of white bread, and I want the packaged "plastic" cheese from Kraft. The 2 pieces of white bread should both be buttered on both sides, and a sandwich press (aka: sandwich "maker") should be used.
PB&J is very good, though. Veeeeery good. ;)

Grilled cheese is great when the cheese is good like a sharp cheddar, but peanut butter (no jelly for me) is so easy to make so I only have to spend about 30 seconds making my meal. Plus since it doesn't have to be refridgerated, I can take it with me to work or leave a jar in my desk for whenever I get hungry. I have to vote for PBw/oJ.

PB&J all the way. Creamy Peanut butter and grape jelly. More flavor, more protein and more calories than a grilled cheese. wheat bread would add even more goodness, but i dont like the flavor or texture of wheat so i think the original white bread is still in the winning for PB&J.

On a cold winter day, it's a GRILLED PB&J for me!!
Make a PB&J, then butter the outside and grill like a grilled cheese....mmmmMMMMMmmm. Just watch out as the PB&J inside melts and becomes this gooey gelatinous mess. It's best to have some Lays original potato chips around to help sop up the mess.
All washed down with ice cold 2% milk.
Instant bliss.
Instant mess.
Instant heart attack.

Grilled Cheese. Instead of buttering the bread, I put mayonnaise on the outsides. Easier to spread and in my opinion tastes better.

I am a grilled cheese girl myself, but only if it is with tomato soup. I just have to dip my grilled cheese in that tomatoeee goodness lol

Grilled cheese for me. Can't stand jelly with pb, esp not on white bread which is almost a dealbreaker even for the GC.
But, try broiling a Kaiser roll, throwing on some little slices of Monterey jack, continue broiling (watchfully!), then shake on some red pepper flakes and have it with tomato soup!
