Apple's prices rarely drop. New models are introduced at the same price (with better features) and past models mysteriously disappear from the shelves.
Although, after a new release you may be able to find discounted former models at an Apple reseller.
Or, there's always the refurbished Apple Store.

Often the previous model prices drop in the refurb store online when a new model is introduced. I got my 2.0Ghz black mb right after the 2.16Ghz models were introduced (original cost $1499, my cost $1049).
