This is an interesting PDF on setting up (http://mm-server01.multimedia.vt.edu:9000/sign-up/assembly_process.pdf) the G5's for the supercomputer.
I have a feeling it's not nearly these simple on a Wintel box.

From the pic I saw it looked like they used a single processor model for the demo, look on page 6 where they show idenitfy the 4 slots, u can see only 1 processor module.

The Welcome screen appeared to be from Panther.
I suppose that when placing such a huge order you get accomodated in terms of pre-release software that will make the machines run faster.

Dude, if I were to spend that much money, I'd like to think I'd deserve at least something for free...at least you can imagine how many free Apple stickers they got from all those G5 orders! :D

They don't seem to be nice to those machines. They wait for the setup assistant screen, and then they force power off the G5s by holding down the power button for 5 seconds. Let's hope that doesn't affect anything (it shouldn't, but they shouldn't be doing that anyway)...
