What is peoples experience of buying Refubs direct from Apple (i wouldn't consider eBay/3rd Party etc)??

I am looking to either get a new MBP in January (updated fingers crossed!!) or a refurb mac pro.

Now i know one is a laptop and one is a desktop (yak yak yak) but they will be of similar price i think and i could kinda use the extra power but i'm slightly nervous of buying refurbed.

anyone have experience of similar position?

I had a perfect experience with my MacBook. It arrived clean and in great working order. No complaints except I didn't get any Apple stickers. :apple: :(

I am impressed with the refurbs as well. I ordered a white c2d macbook (pre sr) for my grandma earlier this month... pristine.

and... mine came with apple stickers ;)

I have purchased a refurbished MacBook from Apple and it came in great condition, fresh and clean. I've been telling anyone interested in buying a Mac to consider a refurbished model to save a good amount of cash. I am planning on purchasing a MacBook Pro refurbished in the near future as well. Mine did come with stickers though..

I got a refurbished Macbook and Mini, and now wish I would have bought my MPB this way...

You save a significant amount of money, and you get a personally tested product. The two I purchased looked absolutely perfect when they arrived, and both function with no issues.

interesting i'll look into it a little more - the savings on a MBP look to be between £100-200 which isn't much really and you're getting (sightly) dated chips and cards...

might be worth getting a refurb iMac and a top end new MB for on the road...

choices!

I bought a Core Duo Mac Mini with Superdrive and 1GB for about the 512MB Combo drive's cost...

Aside from not coming in the original box, and having barely noticeable signs of wear through normal use, there was nothing to separate it from a brand new machine

Coming from someone that has low income. I'm a new switcher(pc-mac) and I bought an 17 mbp refurbished. I got the 2.33ghz and let me say that my pc was 2.8 P4 with a 1gb of ram, and this is way faster. My refub came in brand new condition, in anyway could you tell that it was refubished. In Jan I'm gonna buy a imac or mac pro and I'm gonna look right at the refubs. I don't need the lastest, just something fast.

I'd say go for it.

Oh and I use Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash all at the same time and it runs great

I got a refurb MBP 2.2.
It was flawless (though I could see that a few of the screws had been turned).
Beautiful machine.

Will do again.

I just had my refurb mini delivered, and as other people have said the only difference is the packaging that it came in. and also with refurbs you sometimes get free upgrades, like I got 1GB of RAM.

Not true. You can get current gen MBP's from the refurb section.

My refurbed MBP has worked flawlessly in the couple of months I've had it.

The MBP I purchased in February has performed flawlessly...except it did just have a hard drive go out, replaced quickly by Applecare.:D

All of the Apple equipment in my sig are refurbs from the online Apple store. I don't think I will ever buy a brand new Mac again. It's refurbs for me as long as Apple continues the refurb program.

edit: The G3 iMacs are not refurbs :(
