New to make a "Legal" page for website...

I have to make a "Legal" page for a college website. Is there a certain thing to say? I guess what I'm asking is, is there an official website that lists what should be said on this "legal" page? I'm a new web designer and I just wanted to be sure that I put the correct thing.

do you want to know what the contents should be? That will depend on what you want the 'legal' page to do. I would find a site similar to what you are doing and use that as a base. If you want your 'legal' page to actually be enforceable, you should consult an attorney that deals with such material. Otherwise, you might not create what you want with your 'legal' page.


edit-- legal disclaimers really rely on phrases of art, which if not included or improperly used, negate your disclaimer, or whatever other purpose you intend for your 'legal' page to do (copyrights, etc)

I guess a "Disclaimer" page might be what I need to do. Something saying that my school isn't responsible for the content on external links and so forth. I'll try to look at a few schools as a base.

If you need it to stand up, then consult a lawyer. Ask your client what happens if they are sued and it doesn't stand up in court. Will they go "meh" or will they be upset. If the latter, tell them to invest in actual legal advice up front.

The disclaimer page is mainly to say "we're not responsible for false,old,external information".

That's the reason I need to make one.

Right, the scenario is that the school links to an outside site, lets say a community calendar. The outside site lets their domain lapse, and 'familyfuntime dot com" is now a portal for "incest-pr0nos-R-Us dot com" Kids click through from the school site, outraged parents sue the school for $10M.

The school should be providing you with the language they want to use for any disclaimer. There is no way a computer programmer is expected to produce something like that, that's what the school has a general counsel's office for.
