I'm excitedly awaiting the shipping of my new 15" 1.25Ghz PB.

What should I do when first setting it up for maximum future pleasure?
i.e. Should I drain the battery completely first time and then how often?
What would be the best way to partition the hard drive if at all?
etc. etc.

The new PowerBook is extremely difficult to set up correctly.
I would strongly suggest you mail the PowerBook to me for configuration.
You should have it back in say...a few weeks - OK? :)

You need to run out and get a few programs for it:

DiskWarrior (http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html): much better than Norton Utilities or Drive 10, it insures that if something goes wrong with the drive you'll be protected.

Norton Personal Firewall (http://www.symantec.com/sabu/nis/npf_mac/index.html): there's a firewall utility built into osX, but it's configurable only from the UNIX Terminal -- and damned difficult to do so.

.MAC (http://www.mac.com/): do yourself a favor and join up, as there are lots of resources here including an anti-virus checker that's sufficient for everyone's needs.

Order the large laptop sleeve (http://www.goincase.com/DetailLaptopSleeveSoftTech.php) for the 15"; roll the mouse over the dotted-yellow circle to see how the strap attaches.

Winston,
yes, you should drain the battery completely and then let it power all the way up. This is called "calibrating" the battery, and it will ensure you're getting maximum battery life.

I disagree that joining .mac is a good idea, but that seems a whole other discussion to me. Enjoy the PB!
