Hi all,
just a quickly note to say that I've heard that the 10th of December all MacPro lovers will be very happy.
I don't want to hurt your feelings if not true, but as I'm getting mad waiting for the update, and yesterday I've been informed about this, just wished to share the info.
If true, would be curious to know this before you from here, far away from the States...

I myself am a newbie only because I just recently joined. I have been reading these forums for a long time.
But I must agree that such a post is sound like a random guess to me. Can't we at least get something entertaining like: I was at the Laundromat and the guy next to me dropped something and it was the blueprints to the New Mac Pro! (Because all apple exec. do there own laundry at the Laundromat.) and anyway he made me promise not to tell anyone but the new MP is coming out Dec 10 or sometime before or after that date.

Why not the 11th, or the 12th, or the 13th??
Apple don't release information regarding products until the second they're launched.

That dates seems too close and yet, also too close to X-Mas, I don't ever recall APPLE ever releasing such a new or a refresh in this time period.

Nice, and from Boston too I see. I keep going to Apple's site and customizing a current MacPro. It's so tempting to just hit 'add to cart'. I am in such a need of a new Mac. This G4 is dogging so badly right now. I might just give in a get one. Tired of waiting.

After Effects 6.5, Final Cut Express ( the last one) Dreamweaver 8, Flash 8, Fireworks 8, Illustrator 10, PhotoShop 7 etc.
I'm amazed it's still going. All with an amazing 1GB of PC133SDRAM.
Looking forward to new MacPro though, can't wait to get Premiere Pro and After Effects CS3 running, want to get into a bit of video editing.

As much power as the Mac Pro has, I wonder how much more power does a person need. Or how much more power can be offered. If a Mac Pro is needed now, I wonder why anyone would wait for Jan 15 unless they are hoping for a price reduction.

People want value for money, the Mac Pro offered this for some time, but no longer does. The base Mac Pro doesn't have $2,500 worth of components in it, coupled with the fact that some have been replaced with much better components at similar value. That is why people are likely to wait.

I want to believe this guy. I really do but the fact is one of my friends is a manager over some of the stores in the southeast region and he told me that the products have been locked for the holidays and MWSF is when the update will come. He also said everyone one wanting a MacPro would be extremely happy with what was going to be released.
I don't know if he is pulling my chain cause he can or what. But the one simple fact that can't be over looked is the MacPro is a business system more than anything else. Businesses have budgets, most of the time if they don't spend what they have been budgeting for they get less money for the following year. Every business that I know that uses MacPros have been banking on getting a new one this year. I really hope Apple sees that and pushes them out a little sooner than jan08.
So the 10th isn't a horrible guess. I would have picked the 11th though if I was going to make that guess. Remember too, the MacPros are not a consumerist system, so Christmas shouldn't come into play when thinking about this.
Anyway, my thoughts on this. (I have been waiting since March 07 too)

If a business budgetted for a Mac Pro then they would buy one. True businesses don't wait on updates to buy their PCs. Businesses buy what's out there.

Two questions cross my mind:
1). How could he know that everyone would be extremely happy with the next macpro unless he had detailed info on its specs.
2). Why on earth would Apple have told someone in his position the detailed specs for an unreleased product? He would not need to know at this point.
Likely conclusion: your friend is making stuff up.

If a business budgetted for a Mac Pro then they would buy one. True businesses don't wait on updates to buy their PCs. Businesses buy what's out there.
True businesses stay in business buy making prudent choices, not just buying what's out there. ROI (Return on investment) sure if it makes sense to buy now to keep your business running than you buy now. But plenty of business want to get the most bang for their buck and will wait for the time to be right.
It has also been mentioned numerous times that a lot of business are looking for year end tax breaks. I would rather spend $4000 on a computer than pay income taxes on that $4000. (Apple even sent me an email reminding me to take advantage of this) But if I buy now when the update comes out in a month, the resale on my purchase drops $1500. So either way I lose out. That is why true businesses want the update now.
I agree, and have posted this before, if you need something new to sustain your business, then of course you buy, but for a lot of us it part of our finical strategy to update now.
And any business that is going to buy what's out there, is going to buy Dell or HP unless Apple releases their updates soon.

And any business that is going to buy what's out there, is going to buy Dell or HP unless Apple releases their updates soon.
Doubtful at best. If a business runs Apple hardware, they are not going to switch to Windows just because Dell and HP may have slightly faster machines. (which if you check the prices are much more than a macpro)
As to the OP: Next week is around the time when the new Dells and HPs will ship. If Apple is planning a rather quiet update, I would imagine that update to be as close to the shipping of the machines as possible, to not hurt any current macpro sales unnecessarily (who would buy the current machines if they knew in 2 weeks they would get 2x the processing for the same money)

That is what I am saying: It is doubtful that businesses just buy what's out there. They buy what they need, at the best price, for maximum ROI. They don't just go online one day and see what for sale and buy it.
Now some business will be forced to buy in order to save on taxes, or to not lose out on part of there budget.

Bleh..... I'm sure it will come and go without a peep from Apple; and Dell, HP, and the like will beat Apple to market with their Harpertown offerings.
Regardless, I just sent the Mac Pro team some more feedback: mainly requesting the E5462 CPU option (2.8 GHz quad, 80 watt TDP, 1600FSB, ~$760) and the nVidia 8800GT as the midrange option. I told them to change their BTO pricing as well, as it is an insult to informed consumers everywhere.
Oh, and I asked them if they were on permanent vacation, or reassigned to the iPhone dev team. :p

Can you say...Nondisclosure Agreement...Perhaps...
What is happening is still a mystery...
My only thing is why December 10th?
Is Apple trying to cash in on those procrastinators that shop two weeks prior to Christmas?
Here I am patiently awaiting Mac World '08, to see the new and improved Macbook and maybe a "One more thing" tease at the end of the keynote.
Any other rumors floating out there about the upcoming Mac World '08?

Two questions cross my mind:
1). How could he know that everyone would be extremely happy with the next macpro unless he had detailed info on its specs.
2). Why on earth would Apple have told someone in his position the detailed specs for an unreleased product? He would not need to know at this point.
Likely conclusion: your friend is making stuff up.
1) Have no idea, not banking on what he says.
2) Totally agree
Conclusion: you are prolly right.
If someone ever does have real news though and wanted to post it, I can see why they wouldn't though. Everyone picks apart everything someone says when they don't know anything themselves and makes the poster feel like crap. For instance this guy has told me this way before black friday and I never posted because of that reason.
How about just take everything as rumors and stop making posters who have been told stuff from people that MAY know something feel like crap.
Seriously, I am not that lucky to have Apple debut a new MacPro on my birthday. Would be nice, but can't see it. If anything, watch it be an announcement for it, shipping January 1st. But still, I have prepared myself for MacWorld. Not lucky enough for anything Apple to come out on 12/10.

Hi all,
just a quickly note to say that I've heard that the 10th of December all MacPro lovers will be very happy.
I don't want to hurt your feelings if not true, but as I'm getting mad waiting for the update, and yesterday I've been informed about this, just wished to share the info.
If true, would be curious to know this before you from here, far away from the States...
THE BEST OF LUCK TO ALL OF US!!!
right, and I'm cyndi lauuuuper...
just kidding though, and this is coming from the guy who's first post was about a mac employee telling my girl that the new mac pros would be coming out soon and be priced at $3349, aww man she fell for the oldest trick in the book!
Although people should chill on making a poster feel like crap, we are just trying to help and not being devious in any way, if I hear something I am going to post it and let people know, rumor or not...
watch it be $3349

So it's not really a smart idea to accept a NIB PowerMac 2.66GHZ as payment for services since a new one is right around the corner?
Can we assume that whatever the new PowerMac lineup is, the lowest end will be more powerful than the current 2.66GHZ config and cheaper as well?

This drive has reported a fatal hardware error to Disk Utility.
If the drive has not failed completely, back up as much data as you can and then replace it with a working drive.
And I see lots of red text. Is my computer dying? Should I just buy a MacPro now?

Spend the $ get a new drive. It's not like your G4 is going to turn into a boat anchor once your MP shows up.
I am not sure about the drives for the G4 but I just got a new 750GB drive for media files in my G5 that I can then move into the new MB when it shows up. But even if that doesn't work, I will still be using the G5 on a regular basis.

There may be a low end (BTO downgrade) 8 core option using slower processors. It may outperform the current base model on some things, but not on others.

I have to agree, they normally don't go more than 8 months without upgrading the specs on the workstation machines. We will be almost double that by the time we reach MWSF. They either have something massive - improvements and not more weight - or they just don't care about it.
In the next 26 days I can't see Apple managing to make this "The year of the Mac" as we were promised before.
Did I mishear or did Steve Jobs say that one of the main reasons for switching to Intel was to improve the speed of progression?
With component prices having plumeted more than ever before to charge people the same price 14 months after release is a little on the cheeky side.
The local reseller near me is offering to install a 2GB stick at £77 (installation and V.A.T) and it's Kingston RAM.

In your position I would go buy a firewire or usb2 drive or something. If you don't have the ports you can buy a super cheepo pci card, I got one at walmart for like $20. Use the drive to back up your stuff and then when you get the new MacPro when it FINALLY comes out (I heard some time around when hell freezes over from my source :P ) You can swap the drive over. If you get a big enough drive you can use it as your time machine backup drive.

If a business budgetted for a Mac Pro then they would buy one. True businesses don't wait on updates to buy their PCs. Businesses buy what's out there.
On what plane is that? Last time I checked, every business (CFO, CTO, CIO or whatever other Cxx) will look at the best possible investment. If this means that they need something now, they'll purchase now,... but believe me, if they feel they get a better deal (read eg twice the performance for the same price), they'll wait.
Oh and euh, it's an urban legend that if you don't spend your budget, you lose it. It happens in government cycles but rarely in the private sector.

Well first off, the previous poster's "neither the sixth nor the fourteenth are tuesdays. he listed a tuesday, a thursday, a tuesday, then a friday...." reminded me of that scene from the Godfather.

The, "Leave the Mac pro...take the iPhone." was also a play on that movie where Clemenza tells his assassin to "Leave the gun. Take the canoli."

Second, if you haven't seen that film I highly recommend it.
Third, I assume you're a young man. You should really lighten up some more. Step outside the computer screen. Enjoy life a bit. Realize that you don't have to use big words like f___ to make your sentences sound important.

Mac Pro, Leopard performance boost at Macworld?
Apple will kick off the new year with more than just a computer upgrade, according to a rumor from MacBidouille.
The January 15th keynote for IDG's Macworld San Francisco expo will see Mac Pros using new 45-nanometer, quad-core Xeons based on Intel's Penryn architecture, the French outlet reports -- systems which AppleInsider said earlier this year were dependent on Intel's supply of new processors before manufacturing could begin, and which would be available by the early 2008 event. These will clock up to the predicted 3.2GHz and use new video cards, including NVIDIA's latest Quadro FX workstation models.
A Blu-ray drive should also be an option, the site claims.
As significant as these updates may be, the report also cites sources which point to the release of Mac OS X 10.5.2 as being instrumental to the hardware upgrade. Apple software engineers are reworking Leopard code to optimize it for the SSE4 instructions found within Penryn and the architecture as a whole, both of which promise speed gains above and beyond clock speed boosts.
This update will be the most significant interim upgrade for Mac OS X ever made by Apple, according to the rumor.

As much as I need a new comp now (or three weeks ago), I prefer that they get it right to releasing something that isn't ready to go.

If it was a hardware change: by all mean, I am with you, let's not rush Apple to get things out prematurely. But optimization - I mean, that's something that is not even broken, just something that will turn from great to even better. No reason to hold back the new product, if you ask me.

He told me it was really nice, but if I wanted one with a fast processor, I had to buy a big LCD with it, whether I needed one or not.
I thought that was kind of strange. Then I asked him where the drive bays are, because I wanted to add three 750GB SATA drives for my music, movies, and pictures... you know... my iLife that the guy on the commercial taks about, just like the MacPro and virtually every desktop PC would allow me to do.
Boy, Apple Store salespeople sure are dumb, because he told me that there was no way for me to do that. My options were to buy slower and more expensive external drives, or buy a MacPro.
Since you're so smart, I thought maybe you could help me out. Which computer in the iMac series doesn't force me to spend hundreds of dollars for a display I don't need, allows me to add SATA drives, and has a video card that can be upgraded?

I think the Mac Pro was delayed because of the bugs in the Penryn. http://www.hardmac.com/news/2007-12-06/#7526
Dell also removed the 1600mhz fsb Penryn processors from their BTO options.

Hmm..... not sure though.
it remains unclear if Xeon Penryn will also be affected or only the Quad Core Extreme desktop-dedicated CPU
I'm not sure how much faith I'd put into MacBidoulle. Then again, I wouldn't put much faith into Apple either when it comes to the Mac Pro.

January represents the the first quarter of the new year (3 months interval).
Tax is reported yearly and goes from 1st of January to 31st of December :)
Not sure what the hold up appears to be but we should see it soon enough, be it a few days from now or a bit over a month (hopefully at latest) :D
Many companies have a different cycle than that. Apple is one of them. I think 1Q2008 is actually Oct-Dec 2007. Now if you're talking about a write-off for your employer or personal business, then it may be different.

I too am anxiously awaiting an update. I'm actually going through all my old junk, selling some of it on eBay, to save some money up. I even plan on selling my iBook G4 (my first mac) to put towards the new Mac Pro once I move back home next week (graduated college, woo).

From there, I'm starting to seriously consider building a Hackintosh.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Mac Pros are powerhouse devices. And I'm all about buying more computer than I need.. :-) (I liken it to hitting a thumb tack with a sledgehammer). But, at this point in my life, I'm not quite sure I can really justify the cost of a Mac Pro, when a self-built mid-range Hackintosh will be more than enough.
The challenge, of course, is making sure I pick the right hardware such that OS X will run smoothly. But the online tutorials seem to be well-written and easy to follow. So it doesn't appear to be too much trouble.
We'll see. It'll depend on a couple of things. 1)How adventurous I'm feeling. 2)How pricey the new Mac Pros end up being.

I think the price will be pretty much the same as the current Mac Pro.
The new processors are the same price as the current Mac Pro processors.
The new video cards are actually cheaper than the current Mac Pro video cards.
I think if you go to The Apple Store and configure the current Mac Pro the way you want it, you will be in the ball park with the next generation Mac Pro prices.

I hope you're right, but, it doesn't mean Apple won't try to charge more for the higher performance. If I'm not mistaken, as the performance of the MacBook Pros has eeked upwards over the last year or so, so has their respective prices. So if we were to use the MBPs as an example to predict Apple's pricing behavior for the Mac Pros, then my guess is they'll be a bit more expensive.
At this point, I think I'd rather put together a single processor, quad-core, desktop-based system. I don't really need (more importantly, can't really justify) a server-based system, but would rather have a bit more computational grunt than the iMac or Mac Mini offers.
That's why I'm looking towards the Hackintosh. For about $2K or so (rounding up) I can put together a nice 3Ghz quad-core system, 8G of RAM, 500G disk, DVD burner, case, power supply, and an nVidia card of my choice. While it won't keep pace with the newer 8-core Penryn Mac Pros, it'll let me crunch RAW photos and edit my race track videos with ease.
Obviously, the huge drawback to that is: if I chose the wrong hardware, OS X won't install or boot properly. Nor will I ever get support from Apple for this.

One thing nice about a Hackintosh; I know you will have a better video card than what will be available for the new Mac Pro.

i believe that he meant tomorrow as its tuesday tomorrow but I think that he is probably wrong as they will release at MWSF. As I invested the money and can't get them this month then I'm actually fine with MWSF as I hope they will update ACD or release new one to go with the iMac desing (LED displays would be fantastic and as the price is similar now - see Samsung LED 20" around $1600). MWSF will either be a big hit or big miss like last year with the stupid iPhone. Let's wait some more and see :)))

Almost everything media wise gets announced on Tuesdays (except movies) so if it is gonna be released before christmas (which it probably wont) it would be tomorrow.
