I realize that the iphone itself isn't capable of group texting.. But is there any way to do it? SUch as a third party app. lol. I've looked all around the web for anything dealing with it and all anyone says is that you can't do it. I was just wondering.

I've heard of no such way, even with 3rd party stuff. People have been complaining about this (as well as sms forwarding) since day one.

Why apple hasn't addressed this is beyond me. Even the most basic handsets have this feature.

I'm pretty up on everything iPhone and I've yet to see even a crappy way of accomplishing this.

So very very very sad that this has not been added to iPhone. Its been on every other mobile phone since the beginning of SMS. I know people who use it so frequently that they could not get an iPhone for this reason alone.

Hard to even imagine that this is not a standard iPhone feature, but it is what it is.

It apparently is possible (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=395792). I've never tried it though. Like the others have said, it's hard to believe this isn't a standard feature!

Interesting!! I'll have to follow that one! That mod would make it worth it for me to hack the phone!

I group text. What are you missing. That + symbol in the sms window is to add numbers, groups etc. Works fine for me.

On my 1.1.2 phone, the "+" option disappears after the first entry has been specified.

The only way I have found is to use the email equivalents, such as xxxxxxxxxx@vztext.com. I then can use Mail to send to as many people as I like and they will get it as a text.

Me too. I can only send to one person at a time too.

tjcampbell, can you double check please? Is your phone modded?

He's probably mixing up multiple recipient emailing with SMS.

I think this may make it easier to group text.. there's also a link for native programs but i don't know if those will work with the updates..

i haven't tried it yet but i will soon.

what I don't get is if its as easy as just adding a little code to get these features what possible reason can apple have for holding them back?

All you do is write a message
Then go to the small + button and add your first mobile number then when that appears press the To: space again and the blue + button will appear again then you add the second and so forth....

It worked for me on a 3GS.:):D

Nope, for the reasons given below. We'll have EFP's in no time more deserving.

Celebrate good times, come on, let's start a celebration!

Yeah, I thought it was pretty old too, when I saw it got opened, but let it pass. I had my fingers on the "you know this thread is a year and a half old" but didn't have the heart to tell him (especially with some of the new threads today where no searching was even attempted!!).

So, good for him.

I guess I'm gonna have to get a face palm to because:

1: I did not RTFM:eek:
2: I did not bother to search:eek:
3: I did not read all of the sticky's when they were up:eek:

So in essence, this almost two year old post was actually useful for me. In my own pitiful defense, all I can say is I may average two SMS messages a day.:o:eek:

I guess I will go download the manual...

Face Palm away:p

if you keep adding multiple recipients to a text by just typing their name or using the + button it will do a group text, then that group stays in the messages screen and you can keep using it to send to that group in the future. not perfect cause it' technically not a stored contact and it cant be named but it's something

Hi, I'm a newbie and I got here using search! :D
You only need to google "group sms on iPhone" and you end up here, that's because apparently it's impossible to group testing on the iPhone. I mean without choosing contacts one by one.

I have a group that I have to be able to send texts to, and have been doing each one manually. Today I tried these suggestions and discovered there is a limit to 10 contacts allowed. My group has 15 members. So the suggestion to just keep adding by using the + sign doesn't work. I am forced to make two groups to get everyone. Ridiculous.

I know this is a mega old thread. However to help people like me out!! If ur iPhone is jb u can get either bitesms or irealsms and buy abcontacts from app store. This gives u full group SMS options. Actually a really good buy. Hope this helps everyone who is in the same place I was.

The feature appears to be operator-dependent, and is about grouping replies to a multi-receipient message. (See also (http://www.macworld.com/article/152234/2010/06/ios4_hidden_features.html).)

Hey guys,

I have created a simple application that allows you to do Group Texting. You can easily create groups on the iPhone and send text messages without having to type in the phone numbers each time.

You can find more information about it here if you are interested: http://www.mattstockton.com/2010/06/27/group-texting-pro-now-available-on-the-iphone-app-store/

Let me know if you have any questions about the app! Looking forward to some feedback!

here's my question....

on my blackberry, i could create a "Group" entry in the address book, such that when i wanted to send a mass text to a few people, i could select that "Group" contact instead of selecting each individual contact.

is there a way to set this up on the iphone?

Feb 8, 2011, 01:40 PM
nope.. u cant..
but heres the thing.. Lets say you want to text a group of people.. you add all their names and send them a messge.. And a week later you want to send another message to them.. Instead of going back and readding all the people.. Just go back to the group message you had created go back to your text conversation list and find the group message and just send another text that way..

Download the app called Groups (it's 4.99) but well worth it. Then go into setting > then messages > then turn Group Messaging OFF (yes OFF) this will stop it from sending MMS and make it send the group message in SMS. Trust me this works......I can send group messages all day now.

I'm new to iPhone in the last 6 months, and today I needed to do a group text.
I started to try but couldn't figure it out, so I googled "how to do group text with iphone", and thus- ended up right here on practically the top search result.

tjcampbell (http://forums.macrumors.com/member.php?u=80321) set me straight.. but just discovered your solution tazhoag. Thanks to both of you!

...then, while posting this message to MR, I discovered your "final" solution outphase (6/10/2010).

A BIG thanks to you all for a quick and thorough solution!!

It's been a few months since the last activity on this thread, but it's still pretty high on search results when I started poking around for a group texting app.

After a little bit of searching and trying out some apps, I ended up using Social Chair SMS. It's fairly simple, which is good for the basic purpose of sending messages to a group of folks.

They have a video of the app on You Tube:

Indeed, this is clearly a missing feature. A bit disappointed on this one. I would expect Apple to provide this feature as default feature.

I have looked for 3rd party app. I have found a free app:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/easy-group/id461469079?l=fr&ls=1&mt=8

It's really simple, and it is free.

But still disappointed on this missing feature

Hi to everyone, my app InstaSMS was designed for that purpose. If you want to check it out this is the link on the App store:

I'm interested to get as many feedbacks as possible with your opinions and suggestions about possible improvements, so feel free to contact me via e-mail.
