Hello,

I am in the middle of creating a website for a client who has now expressed the need to be able to update the site themselves. Can anyone recommend a software that will do this or advise me where to start. I have good knowledge in html, dreamweaver but thats about it.

Thank you. :D

You're looking for a content managment system, commonly called a CMS>

There are many options available. The first thing we need to know to make an informed suggestion is what platform the site will run on. Is it Windows or Linux?

Thanks.

I wasn't sure what it was called probably why I haven't been successful in my searches!

The platform used is Linux and I have created the site in dreamweaver.

Depending on the scope of content you want to control here are a few suggestions:

If you want it mainly for news, events, blogs.. that sort of thing try:
Wordpress (http://wordpress.org/) - FREE

Something that's got a few more features try:
ExpressionEngine (http://expressionengine.com/) - free/paid

Feature rich with many addons like e-commerce try:
Joomla (http://http://www.joomla.org//) - FREE

I would also recommend http://www.textpattern.com/ . This is what I use most often and is less bloated then Joomla/Mambo but more flexible then Wordpress. Also, you might give Drupal a go, but I personally don't use it much because it is geared for community driven sites, which I don't do much of.

Try before you commit to a CMS:
