I found this picture of a new iBook.

It looks kind of like the new iMac, but with two cylindrical pivots that make the screen "Float."

This is an ingenious idea if it is real!

how do you type with the monitor almost resting on the keyboard?

This is definitely a home-grown mod. As 3rdpath said, the keyboard would be too close to the monitor in many positions.

That second degree of freedom just wouldn't be handy enough to warrant making a machine like this. I'm happy with my TiBook's screen firmly attached to the base, thank you

I'm more curious: How does the video cable connect? what about power? and what happens when your kid snaps those little wires off?

interesting concept tho... one can only wonder how Apple plans on changing the design of the laptop in the future! i don't think any of us would have guessed at the iMac five years ago :)

This looks a little more sturdy than the iBook implementation. And the keyboard position in relation to the screen is a lot different. This actually looks like a design that might work...but I still don't know how much benifit you'd get from that second degree of freedom of motion.

I can just picture the screen twisting independently on both sides. Talk about even more fragile than the iPod... Apple would never make something like that. It's a foolish design in my opinion.

Its not a G4 screen, its probably a iBook screen, but the whole thing might be a combination home redesign with a few photoshop touchups to clean the images so it looks cleaner.

Notice that you don't see any data/wire connections to the screen. Are they just not in the picutre or are the PS'd out?

Here's a different perspective...

The design in flawed because the screen could be bumped down onto a users fingers... and thus result in legal action.

well- there are a few thing that I notice about the design-

1. the screen in one of the shots looks wider than the regular iBook
2. there appears to be no speakers (like on the current iBook)
3. the 56k modem is gone

I think they could run the display and power wires through the side arms- they do it now with the support arm on the iBook that is out now. I have faith in Apple that they would make it sturdy just like the iMacs arm. Everyone was second guessing the arm on the new iMac and it turns out that its a non-issue- so maybe the iBooks flip screen and arm will be a non-issue.

This design would allow the iBooks screen to lay flat over the keyboard for use with pen input. The iBooks design would be great for this concept- unlike most of the PC notebooks/tablet hybrid things that are supposed to be comming out in the near future. Its slim, has great battery life, and a optical drive and is slimmer than most of the PC tablet/notebooks.

I have a good feeling that this is a photoshop job- look at the border around the iBooks screen and the shadow under the screen.

God- I wanted an iWalk and now I want one of these iBook/tablet things.

I noticed these things.... note look very close

There is a dark triangle to the left of the trackpad... kinda wierd
The top and right part of the lcd there are jagged lines where the lcd meets the casing.

look at the back of the lcd casing do u see a tan color like the persons hands, very wierd... also it looks like the hinge snaps into where the modem port went?
