I don't if this has happened to anyone else, but gmail keeps downloading all my emails as unread, even ones that I have previously marked as "read" on the iPhone. As you delete each one, it goes and fetches more from the past and keeps doing it until you end up going back to the very first email. I wouldn't mind, but when you see hundreds of unopened emails it has hard to actually know what to read.
This seems to happen randomly after I have connected to iTunes for a sync.

A search actually turns up some great threads on this.
Basically you need to use IMAP for gmail. Go to gmail.com and then under settings enable IMAP and then read the very simple directions. This will only download new mail from the servers.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but am I the only person not to have received IMAP access yet with gmail?

I dont have access to IMAP in Gmail if my settings are set to UK.
I've changed my Gmail preferences to US and the IMAP option magically appears, along with the updated interface! :D
