why use web apps when you can jailbreak?

not all of us want to jailbreak. I read about some having stability issues. I wonder if they are related.

I thought about jailbreaking, but it doesn't really add anything in my mind. The best apps in my mind are Facebook (Just got to facebook.com if you have an account with facebook) Sport Tap (Best way to check up all major sport scores, pro and college http://sportstap.mobi/) iLounge (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/iui#_home) Bejeweled (Fun game http://static.popcap.com/iphone/) Beejive (A wonderful IM app iphone.beejive.com). Google also re-did their home page which I love it now.. I'm perfectly happy with Web Apps, I haven't had an issue with them yet and haven't had to break my warranty (Yes I know you can restore, but that delete everything on the touch).

In the long run I believe web apps will win out. Look at the 100s if not 1000s of apps available for the Pc. At first a resident apps seems useful but browser based web sites seem win out. Probably because of their ease of use and the community of people who use the site.

If you had a choice would you rather read macrumors in a browser or thru a resident apps with an unfamiliar Ui?

for the iPhone you may be right. Not for the touch, however. An app that's only available part of the time isn't always useful. For example a finance app, a gas tracking app, a notepad, shopping list, games, etc etc etc...

If you can only access them from one place people will always prefer native apps. Whether or not everyone hacks their iPod to allow native apps is another issue...

Basically native apps will be prefered indefinitely until apple releases a real web sdk.

Totally agree. Wi-fi is not everywhere (yet) and until it is, Web-based apps are pretty much useless compared to native apps.
