24" Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP-HC? Any Users?

On the top of my list to purchase for monitors is the 24" Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP-HC (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&sku=320-5647).

However, I read the CNet review (http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/dell-ultrasharp-2407wfp-hc/4505-3174_7-32514853.html) and it's only cons listed are:

It received an overall 8.2 which was better than the previous model.

-Unintuitive onscreen display navigation; (doesn't bother me)
-less-than-amazing static image quality. (makes me a bit nervous)

What makes me scratch my head is that the previous 2407WFP (not HC) was picked as Cnet's top monitors (http://reviews.cnet.com/4370-3174_7-258-101.html?tag=dir). (8.0 rating compared with the newer 8.2)

Are there any users here who have this monitor or seen it paired with a mac?

I do a lot of work with Photoshop so I want to make sure I'm not digging myself into a hole...

I have the normal 2407WFP and while I feel my 15" 2.4ghz MBP's LED backlit screen is a little clearer, it's an amazing screen. I can only imagine the HC to be better.

I run my MBP through this monitor and soon will maybe have a new Mac Pro to use this monitor full time with.

Are you using the full resolution option of 1920 x 1200?

I too have the non-HC version on my Mac Pro. I've loved it, but sometimes feel it just isn't bright enough. I dunno if it's age or if I just never really noticed it, but sometimes I wish it was cranked up to 11, y'know?

It's sharp however, and when calibrated has pretty accurate color representation (especially compared to 6-bit panels). I'm certainly happy with it, but now I'm wanting a 30" screen.

The MBP can go up to 2560 by 1600 (think 30" ACD; Dual Link!) so handling the 24" screen is no problemo. I've had it hooked up a few times and it looks nice. Now that I have a Pro on it, there's little to no reason to have my MBP hooked up to a display.

But it certainly will display just fine at native resolution.

I hadn't really noticed it before, but it could be it's (semi) new location in a fairly bright office. I previously had the brightness set at 50% and now I have it cranked at near 100%. I sure hope it's not slowly dimming away! :(

Are the DELL screens matte or glossy or does it depend on model?

Go out and see the Gateway FHD2400. It has everything and HDMI port. You can find it on sale depending on the week for $500 at CC.

The monitor per se is very good. You´ll have to do some calibrating, however as default colors and especially white temperature are rather artificial.

I have the 2407WFP-HC connected to my MBP, and brightness is not a problem, let me tell you. I have the brightness turned down to 1/8th for my low-mid level studio lighting, and working next to a window on a sunny day is okay for InDesign layout work. Not that I'd do that...

I've had it for a couple months, and haven't yet found the time for a proper calibration, but am planning to spend the money to get a hardware calibrator in the new year. Out of the box the colours are more saturated than on my MBP (early 2006 vintage), particularly in the reds and greens.

The screen is matte, BTW.

Perhaps the best thing about this monitor is that I could buy two for the price of one 23" ADC. Depending on the sale, of course.

Yes, definately, haha. It's very clear, I just find the LED backlit MBP screen to be better looking. I absolutely love my 2407, though.

I agree! I picked this up for just $450 over the weekend, and I am loving it.
