I'm working on a packing design. It's going to look very expensive. Would you recommend to use embossed or the opposite blind embossed?
Somebody that know a secure place to get critiques of packaging design?

It all depends on the design, but in a very broad way blind embossed is the sign of a higher end product, imho.

More info?
1. What is the packaging for? (cosmetics, food, etc.)
2. What are you embossing / debossing? (pattern, logo, shape, etc.)
3. What else is already going on the packaging? (don't want to create too many colors, textures, effects)

Thank you so much.
The packaging is inspired by watch, jewelry, parfume intustries in a box with black croco skin. My plan is to emboss the logo (a hand signiture) in the the box maybe colored with red and maybe a few lines of display font with the tag line. The only colors are black and red and maybe some white. Has considered some metallic red instead of normal red.

Sometimes metallic can look cheap, so you have to be careful. Maybe choose a foil stamping for your logo and go with a matte metallic instead of a glossy metallic. Optionally, look into pearlized foil samples. Those are nice too.

Thank Z.Beeblebrox:) I don't really know pearlized foil. I have also considered using red instead of the metallic red. Don't really know if emboss or deboss or print directly on the box is the way to go. To get the expensive look.

I'd agree with irishgrizzly on the blind embossing as a preference, but foiling looks good too as long as its not to complex, (personal choice only)

I'd say it boils down to what paper stock you choose for the box. You could print croc skin directly onto the box, blind emboss the paper stock with the croc skin pattern or you could find a paper stock that is textured to look like croc skin. You may be limited with budget there.

Not that i have any clue what you are selling, but as far as paper goes, look into Smart Papers, Especially their Carnival series With the Cordwain Finish. I guess it's not quite Croc Skin, but it's pretty close. I think it looks more like leather....but it's a really nice finish.

The Neenah Eames Architecture is all nice, but i think it only comes in 50lb Text....i'm too lazy to look it up right now, but i think that is right. Great finish though
