Some photos in iPhoto 08 are all black until clicked

I have a few albums with about 4500 total images.

A few images are 100% black on the grid as thumbnails. They remain this way until I click them & then it shows the picture.

Why is this?
 
You could rebuild your library to try and overcome this, see my post here in another thread with instructions of how to do this.
