Time has already named (http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2007/11/01/times-invention-of-the-year-iphone/) the iPhone the invention of the year. Now, it tops their list (http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/top10/article/0,30583,1686204_1686305_1690738,00.html) of Top 10 Gadgets of 2007.
The iPhone changed the way we think about how mobile media devices should look, feel and perform. The design is exceptional inside and out: It's got a slick glass-and-stainless steel case and an elegant touch screen loaded with eye candy. It's an iPod and a 2-megapixel camera. Images and video clips display vertically or horizontally — they reorient themselves depending on how you hold the thing. When the phone detects a wireless network within range — your own home wi-fi set up or somebody else's — it lets you tap once to connect, and then proceed with your Web surfing, Google mapping, emailing and other activities that can otherwise be painfully slow over AT&T's cellular network — the only one, unfortunately, that carries iPhone calls.

Other devices that have made the list include the Nikon Coolpix S51c (http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/top10/article/0,30583,1686204_1686305_1690754,00.html), Netgear Wi-Fi Skype Phone (http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/top10/article/0,30583,1686204_1686305_1690756,00.html), Palm Centro (http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/top10/article/0,30583,1686204_1686305_1690773,00.html), Sony Handycam HDR-CX7 (http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/top10/article/0,30583,1686204_1686305_1690820,00.html), Samsung P2 (http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/top10/article/0,30583,1686204_1686305_1690824,00.html), Toshiba Portege R500-S5004 (http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/top10/article/0,30583,1686204_1686305_1690832,00.html), FlyTech Dragonfly (http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/top10/article/0,30583,1686204_1686305_1690848,00.html), Iomega eGo Portable Hard Drive (http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/top10/article/0,30583,1686204_1686305_1690855,00.html), and the Belkin N1 Vision Wi-Fi Router (http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/top10/article/0,30583,1686204_1686305_1690859,00.html).

Good call. The iPhone is not overpriced, the tariff is not too high (especially when you see adverts on the telly for ringtones that cost £4.50 a week), but it is light years ahead of the competition. I wouldn't pay more than £10 for any other phone, but for an iPhone I would part with the £269. All those that claim the phone isn't value for money need to do two things: 1. Use one; 2. Open their eyes to how much other vendors are charging for phones and tariffs (that incl. data) - if anything the iPhone tariff is dirt cheap.
