noob

just had to get it out there.
I'm running evocam on my macbook pro as a security camera of sorts. I have everything on it set up fine as far as motion sensors go, but I was wondering if there's a way to get it to not show up in the dock. It's just a bit obvious is all.

Also, is there a way to have a user-specified key command control whether or not the motion sensor should capture or not.
Also, I was wondering if there's a way to get evocam to shut down when another camera application (like ichat or photobooth) are opened, instead of it giving the dialog that the camera is already in use.

Thank you in advanced.

Welcome.

Can't help on the second and third question but someone will.

Right-click or control click the icon in the dock, select "Hide" should do it.

That'll only Hide the windows of the app, not the icon.

Have you tried this? Drag app into here:
System Preferences / Accounts / Login Items

Check the "Hide" checkbox.

that would still hide the window but not the dock icon.

try using an app called "dockless" it changes a little value in the plist to make it not appear in the dock. it doesnt work for all apps though but im pretty sure it will work for evocam.

no sure about the third question sorry. is there a setting in evocam?

Right click on the icon and then choose Remove from Dock.

Right click on the icon and then choose Remove from Dock.

it would still show up once you open the program

try this (http://foggynoggin.com/dockdodger)

why don't you change the applications icon to something more common e.g. Word, ichat etc. That way it will be disguised.

you could use a program like candy bar and change the icon itself to something else... like fire fox or a custom icon that u make in photoshop
i think that's the best bet

or yout could just do what I said, that would be a lot easier and you wouldn't get confused.

A lot of great suggestions. Thank you. I think I'm going with techlover/richthomas' idea, I'll try one or both of those programs. I think changing th icon would end up confusing me for right now.
Thank you for all the help.

I don't think there's a setting in evocam, I just got it but i looked through all the settings and couldn't see anything (for the closing once another program is open or for the command key shortcut)
thanks guys, I like how active this forum is.

after hiding it from the dock, how do i access it again? Is there a different way I can go to get to the running programs?

Your issue has already been solved by whoever posted a link to DockDodger. It does exactly what you want, it removes the Dock icon from the Dock. You can still access the program by any alternative means, like Cmd+Tab.

Thank you quillz, but cmd+tab doesn't show evocam.

I just found out about Activity Monitor which is basically wha ctrl+alt+delete does in windows, which is exactly what I wanted. So I got that figured out woo
