Nope sorry, the unlocked French phone only works with French carriers. But if you need help getting an unlocked one in the states, let me know.

And how do you know that?? It works in whole Europe and why would it not work with US GSM carriers??

Reports of French unlocked iPhones only work with French carriers are true.
http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2007/12/13/breaking-officially-unlocked-iphones-not-really-unlocked/
However, new information suggest that there is a workaround, and reports are Apple might classify the behavior as a bug (in that case it'll be fixed in the future).

ilounge just posted (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/unlocked-iphones-sold-by-orange-not-country-locked/12068) that they confirmed directly with orange that the unlocked iphones they are selling are NOT country-locked...

Yeah, the problem is classified as a bug experienced by a small number of people.

so french iphones would work in the states right?
if that's so, how would iTunes updating in the future affect the lock free status?
