Why are the fans in my Mac Pro suddenly so loud?

SMC prolly got confused... it happens.
Reset SMC by unplugging the power cord, waits um, about 5 minutes is more than enough. Plug the power cord back in.
Should be fine. There is a switch inside on the logic board called SMC Reset. Could do that instead but this way keeps you from having to pop the side off.

System Management Controller controls all kinds of temp control and power management stuff... here's a link to the Apple site of what you're doing here with the SMC reset:
