Apple has given the 1.8 GHz G5 a Composite Theoretical Performance value of 21 753 (vs my 800 MHz iBook at 1064). But the Dual 867 G4 has a CTP of 23 409, which is higher than the G5! What do these CTP numbers actually mean anyway?

For reference, the 2 GHz G5 has a CTP of 45 000.

BTW. It is so that the Dual 1.25 (and thus the 1.42) G4's are indeed quicker than the Single G5's, in SMP conditions... So maybe this theoretical number does account for something.....

With those kinds of numbers, I would suspect some sort of single precision floating point calculations weighing heavily into the equation since AltiVec does that quite well.

Since two G4 processors do that really well, it's no wonder that the 1.8 GHz G5 would be bested. Of course, if it was a matter of double precision floating point maths, the single G5 would probably win.
