Automatically Connect To A Server

How do i make my mac automatically connect to my home mac mini when i turn my macbook on... i dont want to go through the hassle of typing in the ip address all the time i just want it to connect automatically and for it to pop up in the desktop and finder
 
When you are connected to it.

Open up system preferences - Accounts - Login items.

Drag the server to this window and it will try and connect to it on logging in/booting.

If the server is not there it will give you a notification dialog saying something to that effect.
