I'm planning on installing Parallels and using the snapshot feature immediately after installing Windows XP on VM.

How large are the snapshots that parallels creates?

This will help me determine how many snapshots I plan to keep, especially since I need to allocate 20GB to the Windows VM in the first place.

A Windows XP installation is usually about 4GB on an actual windows machine.

Thanks,

I suggest compressing your disk before you make a snapshot. I've seen a snapshot take anywhere between 1-3 GB before.

I wouldn't be surprised if it could get large.
