iPod Touch Lock

Okay, so my friends decided to play a prank on me, and put a password on my touch, and have not given me the password to my iPod yet. I synced my iPod, but do not want to restore. What can I do to get the friggin password off?

I wouldn't call the above a troll. That's just not cool of your friends if you are at the point of the thing where you are asking for help on a forum... it's called taking something too far.

Sorry, I realize that was unhelpful. No offense intended -- malicious pranks just don't sit well with me. I wish I knew a solution that didn't involve reformatting or getting your friends to confess, but I don't think the passcode lock was designed to be breakable.

Woah woah, chill. That kind of statement isn't uncommon here. People don't want a cold simple "question-answer" forum... the appeal of MR is the communicative aspects.

Not a problem, I'd probably feel the same way. Actually my first reaction was to suggest that you take your friends out back and threaten them with something big and hurtful, but I think you'd have appreciated that "help" even less! :o

Nah, I'd never do such things to my friends, but it is really annoying. Apparently I'm gonna have fun with the next 3 or so hours. :mad:

I got it to the point where it wanted me to wait two hours, though. And as another plus, it is proving that it'll be safe when I get my own lock on there.

EDIT: Mac-Addict, they're not douche-bags, they're just trouble causing sometimes. Otherwise, they're the best friends I could ask for.

Well, I personally, as a gentleman (Yeah, right. :rolleyes:) don't hit girls. (Or anyone, unless they REALLY piss me off) So that's not my option.

I sent them a threatening email. :) And if it isn't resolved... stuff will happen.

Please, I knew that already, I just don't want to start from scratch again. Then I have to restore, resync, re-jailbreak, and it takes longer than I care to spend.

EDIT: Meh, if you have SSH access to the phone/iPod, you'll have more than a password could protect anyway.

If you have SSH access to your iPod, it's stored in a preference file and is very easy to remove.

1. SSH/SFTP into the iPod
2. Edit /var/root/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist
3. Look for PasswordProtected and change it to 0
4. Save the changes back to the iPod and restart SpringBoard or the iPod.

yeah I have put a password on one of my mates iPod and he couldn't use it, it was fun for 5 minutes and then I told him the password.

Hmm. Got it from my friends, they both apologized (Profusely.) So I'm good now. I never thought of SSH'ing into it. Thanks to all that helped.

Who would want to reformat just because your friend is a jerk
