I would love it if the long-awaited (and rumored!) ultra-portable mac turned out to be true at MWSF. I'm not personally interested in buying one (although, who knows?) but I think it would be a great addition to the Apple product line, and definitely encourage more innovation in the laptop arena.

Of course, I'd also like to see a 3G iphone w/ GPS, MMS, video recording, and downloadable apps.

Ultra-portable for me as well.

Since donating my old iBook to someone in need, I've missed making use of free wiFi in all sorts of places. (A 17" powerBook just isn't portable enough.)

I need to see 30" iMac Pro on that list. With BRD/Superdrive Combo, mini-PCIe slots, quad-core, 1600mhz bus, 6 USB, 3FW800, FW400, eSATA, 512MB + VRAM with Nvidia 8800+ series GPU and dual internal SATA 3.0 drives. Also, inputs for DVI, HDMI to the display itself, so I can use it with other sources.

I'll fork over 4K for that in a heartbeat, and break the bank at the same time.

MacBook Pro. I am most interested in new features and design. It is powerful enough for me right now. It is thin and light enough for me as it is. However, I don't like the keyboard or the touchpad. A wider and deeper keyboard with square arrow keys and extra function keys would be great. Just shove the speakers out of the way and you could fit a full size keyboard on the 15" and even a 10 key on the 17". Two buttons on the touchpad would seal the deal.

Give me a 32GB iPod touch sometime next year and I will seriously consider picking one up. Otherwise I am very content with my new 24" iMac and will not be looking to purchase any new hardware for several years.

Anxiously awaiting the nextgen iPod Touch.

Hoping for at least 64 GB, though 32GB might persuade me to buy.

I really like the bigger screen and WiFi web surfing. But $400 for 16GB is a deal breaker right now.

Very close to being exactly what I want, but it just falls short on a few issues, such as the need to networked with a desktop computer.

If the storage capacity can be increased (if they'd increase the size of the box, then adding a cheap 200Gb HD would be possible - they're shooting themselves in the foot by insisting on making it so slim only a relatively pricey 2.5" drive can fit), there's no reason why the AppleTV couldn't be a hub by itself, with the iTS accessible directly.

DVR functionality would be even better but I guess Apple has the "digital TV is still not quite standardized" problem to deal with there.

Aside from my vote for the ultra portable, a 32gb iPod Touch would be next in line. It would work well to replace my 30gb 5th gen iPod, not having to make any decisions of about what media I would have to remove for the upgrade.

When it is ultimately released it will be replacing my 3G iPod which is still running strong after 4 years! ;) :) A color screen and video capability would definitely be a nice touch though, even though my current iPod still works great... :o

Other: Mid-range *upgradeable* Mac. Basically, something with a PCIe slot that costs half the price (or less) of a Mac Pro.

In lieu of that, a Mini with a decent graphics chip that also has dedicated video RAM. Something along the lines of a GeForce 8600 w/ 256MB of memory.

i was watching the interview that steve jobs and bill gates had with at 'D' earlier this year. I believe the thing steve was talking about that he seemed to think was absolutely amazing, i reckon it'll be released at macworld and it is the sub-notebook. Thats my opinion.

CalBoy
Dec 18, 2007, 11:48 PM
I voted for the sub notebook, but I'm withholding full judgement until it actually comes out.

Then again, I'm still interested in the macbook updates that are out later next year (Spring-ish). I'm hoping to convince my sister and dad to get one, and an updated macbook will make that a lot easier.

An In-Dash Head Unit with an iPhone interface. That would be the best, then I wouldn't need to buy the extra bluetooth module. (So far I haven't found one that is made to work with iPhone.)

I would replace my current radio in a HEARTBEAT for that thing. Apple really should make one, that would be completely amazing. It could have OSX on it haha.

I clicked "Rumored Ultra-Portable" but that isn't what I want. There wasn't what I'm waiting for and there was no choice of "Other". What I want is a hand-held Macintosh. It can have phone, fine, but I want the operating system fully opened up. I wouldn't mind it being a little bigger than the iPhone, 2x or so would be fine. What I want is full access to my data and to have it sync directly (No .Mac account nonsense) to my desktop and notebook Macs.

Until then I'll stick with my Visor Deluxe. Palm / Handspring got a lot right.

macinfojunkie
Dec 19, 2007, 04:32 PM
I think that Apple need to add the following to their line-up in 2008:

Mini Tower ($850 to $1700 range)
Updated Apple TV (not necessarily new hardware but they need to focus more on this platform, especially in Europe as it is not really developing and gaining a foothold)
Ultra-portable
BRD support

I think that the iPhone and iPods have received by far enough attention during 2007 and apple should refocus on the other products for a bit. Continue rolling out new territories for iPhone and Itunes store by all means. But remember they have computer users as well as those who need trinkets.

I'm not specifically listing minor speed/spec upgrades to the existing range of products as no doubt that would happen naturally as parts improve.

I feel sorry for people who have had to wait and continue to wait for a "rev b" iPhone. Edge is plenty fast, multimedia messaging is pretty useless because most people don't have MMS plans and it costs like $1 a message to receive (whereas emails with photos are free). Don't need GPS, car has navigation system. I got an iPhone on the first day and I've loved every day I've had the iPhone. If you're always waiting until the next revision, then you'll never end up getting anything.

I voted for mac mini. A mini with user-upgradable RAM and graphics that aren't pure ***** would be nice.

The legendary Ultra-Portable: "Air Nano"? "iPhone Pro"? or just plain ":apple: Ultra"?

For me it would be maybe 2-3x the size of the iPhone, connect to a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, external video output, and wireless-N, and one USB 2.0.

And it should have some kind of personal teleporter, for sure.

3G iPhone, ideally with 32gb of memory

New Cinema Displays (cheaper 30inch, maybe 30% cheaper)

MacBook Pro with a quad core, 8-16gb of ram, and option of dual hard drives (sacrificing optical drive of course).

When (eventually) these technologies are launched I will be buying I promise you that!

im definitely waiting for a real inexpensive laptop or desktop

Prepare yourself to buy something other than Apple. Apple and inexpensive do not go together.

I'm waiting for a refreshed MacBook Pro. Just out of curiosity I did a price comparison between the current MacBook Pro, configured just like a ThinkPad that is currently available.

Although I've been a long time Apple Laptop user, I must admit that when I saw the MBP was $1,400.00 more than the ThinkPad it was an eye opener.

No wonder Steve Jobs is laughing all the way to the bank.

I'd love tgo have a true ultraportable Mac that has the design/form of the 'convertible TabletPC' as well as the associated handwriting/gesture integration found in either Vista or XP TabletPC edition. It actually works great, but still wish that I could get the same functionality with an Apple product!!

Instead I had to buy a Fujitsu U810 recently to get this type of device....

Although I really like the U810, it's an excellent lil' UMPC....fits in a coat pocket!
