Hi
What do you wise old birds consider the best internal hard-drive for a MacBook 2.2gb new version.
Any thoughts on the Western Digital Scorpio 250GB 5400RPM SATA 8MB Cache - OEM (WD2500BEVS)?

You could do that, or go even higher with the new 320gb.

Depends on what you want to do, the 200gb 7200rpm drive will give you faster speed, although 320gb 5400 rpm would be nice too...

My question is not so much of "if I could", but rather what is considered a good hard drive for the MacBook... is the Scorpio range any good, etc.
Help please.

Haven't heard any complaints about the Scorpio's so far...

Dude, relax. There's nothing magical about Macbooks that allows them to use only Apple-approved hard drives. And you can read plenty of reviews for Scorpio, WD, or any other manufacturer online, like at Newegg. There isn't a single "best" drive for an MB; it's basically a question of what you're looking for in a drive, and how much you're willing to pay for it. As long as you aren't buying a killer Seagate 7.01, your computer should be fine.
