iPod Nike+ with old color HD iPod

Hi guys,
Just wondering if its possible to have the Nike+ software work on older iPods or iPods other than the Nano. Everything I have read just says "I wouldn't do it" but never a definitive answer. I understand the whole HD idea. So will it work on other iPods or does the software just not let you do it? Thanks.

Ah yes! iPod touch+ is such a good idea! I was actually annoyed the other day when I wanted to run but didn't have my nano on hand with me. If i had touch+ I wouldn't have this problem
